Specialist Basketball throughout Terms 1 and 2 consisted of 4 periods a week, involving a theory session, training/learning, and games. Over the course of the elective, different focuses. Personally, throughout most of the first term and part of the second, I had an injury preventing me from involvement in the course then. The theory sessions consisted of focusing on profiles, physicality and skills, then on different drills, and concepts. Game double periods and single training periods consisted of gameplay as well as drills and more.
Player Profile
Beginning the theory sessions in Term 1, we were required to create a player profile. This would allow us to show what we provide, as well as what we need and our strengths and weaknesses in a separate task. It would also in general provide us with a player profile for the future when possibly needed.

WCE- Diet and Elite Training
In the Specialist basketball program, representatives from the WCE AFLW came in, to present to us about Diet and Elite Training. This consisted of different activities and presentations. Reflecting upon this, the main concepts I took from the WCE AFLW representatives were the importance of diet within a sporting lifestyle, as well as the share of personal time also in a sporting lifestyle.
Skill Training and Personal Physicality
Throughout Specialist Basketball, we worked on our skill training and personal physicality. At the beginning of the year, we focused on these topics and created different programs different for each other to focus on these skills and physicalities. Personally, I focused on improving my physicality in endurance and vertical areas, and my skill training in defence and shooting. Doing these over the course of weeks allowed all to improve on these skills, and improve our physicality for game play in the future.
Defensive and Offensive Concepts
Throughout Specialist Basketball, we worked through different defensive and offensive concepts to take away and implement into our game outside of school. The defence focused on shell defence, however, also consisted of defending a pick and roll and more. The offence consisted of making space within plays, as well as being able to pursue 1v1s within a game format.
Where to from here?
Doing the Specialist Basketball program provided a personal insight into my own basketball ability. Although basketball for me is not completely serious, the program provided me with different plays and tips for me to then implement in the future in a more casual basketball setting. Not only this, but in the future, my personal basketball career will be truly benefited from the acts within the Specialist Basketball program, and will allow me to better play in my hoped setting.
