A Little About Me

My name is Matthew Zatella. I live in Perth, Western Australia and I am in Stirling at All Saints’ College. There are many different things I enjoy, such as my sports, as well as many different things academically. Tennis is my main sport as well as basketball. I have competed in many different national tennis tournaments, and have had opportunities to represent WA and Australia many times. I have played since I was 4 years old, so tennis has been in my life for many years. I have been going to ASC since 2016, therefore since Year 3. My journey so far has been exceptional, and I am looking forward to the years ahead.

My Connections

I have many different connections to people in life. This consists of my family, friends, and many more. Friends consist of close friends, school friends and even interstate friends. My main connections are also through different activities I participate in, such as tennis, the source of making interstate friends. I am extremely close to all my family and friends and having these certain people around has largely impacted my life.

OLP’s at ASC

I have been on OLP’s at All Saints’ College since 2016, therefore 6 Camps. They have all been extremely exciting, however, the key OLP’s I have been a part of is the Year 7 and 8 Camps. They both consisted of an incredible journey, and much more.

Year 7 OLP at Forrest Edge was a 5-day camp, with many activities such as Abseiling, A Pamper Pole, and much more. This was one of the most exciting camps I have been on. It provided me with knowledge and skills which will be necessary for many future camps.

Year 8 OLP at Nanga Bush Camp was also a 5-day camp in Term 2. We were in houses, which created relationships and skills building for years ahead in vertical tutor groups and more. It was at the same location as Year 5 OLP, so doing orienteering around the place brought back memories to the 3 years before.

My School Participation and Achievements

Projects

Over my time at ASC, there have been many different projects that I have participated in. Some examples of these include the Utopia Project, The $2 Project and many more. The Utopia Project in Year 7 was a project where we had to create a protopia. This occurred over the course of a semester (Terms 2 and 3). It consisted of the topics of Hass, English as well as using time in InnovatEd. This project allowed me to grow in different strengths in teamwork and leadership settings, as well as improving my presenting as well as reaction speaking skills. We were required to refer our work to the global goals while receiving advice from many different professionals in different areas relating to our Utopias.

Innovation and Enterprise

Throughout ASC in the SS, I have participated in innovation and enterprise through the $20 Boss and The Year 7 Christmas Market. The Christmas Market was where we worked over the course of a Term, to produce products to then sell to the majority of the school and teachers. Our business was extremely successful, as we sold out. The $20 Boss is an ongoing project, that has allowed us to broaden our knowledge in many different areas of learning. My group ‘Geoply’ have participated in many different markets, and have gained many different skills throughout our time of working together.

Teamwork and Leadership

There have been many instances where leadership and teamwork have had to be shown during the course of my time at ASC. Some examples of this are house participation as well as being the House Captain for Stirling in Year 6. Peer support in Year 8 in Semester 1 provided many different activities where teamwork was required. This included the different ice breakers and problem solving where we had to work together in order to successfully accomplish the challenge. During the course of Year 6, there were many different parts of working as a house captain, where I had to show leadership. This included different speeches and hosting different events for the Junior School. This pushed me forward into the Senior School.

ASC Capabilities

There are many different All Saints’ College Capabilities that I have displayed throughout my time at ASC. Some of these can include resilience, collaboration and many more. These have been able to assist with many different groups tasks, assignments and school in general when working with my peers.

Resilience. The ability to ‘bounce back’ after falling down. From the definition, you can greatly see that in a school setting, having or using resilience is extremely effective in boosting the level of your work or communication. One project that my group and I would have shown resilience in is the Year 7 Christmas Market. We fought many setbacks, however, we used this to push forward and progress through the project. Covid-19 also required a great quantity of resilience, as the country and the rest of the world was greatly impacted, but you solely had to do your part in helping resist the virus.

Collaboration. The action of working in a group to produce something. This capability has the ability to help you succeed in many different group settings throrughout school. A project that required the use of collaboration was and is the $20 Boss Project. This is a project that is on going, and has shown participation in markets and runway. Throughout the course of this project, there have been many instances that collaboration has been shown with my group. Some of these include the obstacles we had to persist through, as well as the disputes we had about the different factors of our business. Another project was the Utopia Project in Year 7. This was where we had to create a Utopia (or protopia as such), where we had to implement different factors such as renewable energy and more. Collaboration was required to work together as we had to split apart the work, and present a finished result to show the parents and friends of the Year 7 2020 cohort.
