Nicola Fallon!
Class of 2027
About Me!
General Information
Hello! My name is Nicola Fallon, and I am in the class of 2027 at ASC. I have been at the school since pre-kindy, in 2013. I live with my parents and cat, Charlie. I also have an older sister and brother who have moved out. I was born on the 14th of April 2010, so I am an Aries. My MBTI is ISTP – T. I am in Ms Tan’s tutor group in Murdoch. I am also on the Murdoch House Council for 2024.
Cocurriculars
My cocurriculars consist of Netball, Mock Trials, College Choir, Peer Tutoring, Strad Strings, Debating and RAAFA/Amana Genconnect. I played basketball for 6 years, but I am trying Netball this year instead of basketball and enjoy playing defensive positions. I have also started Mock Trials this year, which has been a very fun experience while learning more about how trials work. I have been in choir since year 2, when I joined the little saints’ choir and love singing as a soprano. I have started being a tutor for peer tutoring this year, which has been a very fun and rewarding experience. I have been playing cello since year 3, and play this in Strad. I started debating last year, and love speaking as 3rd speaker. I miss out on some of Genconnect because of mock trials, but I joined last year and love talking to the residents.
Interests
Since I was in year 1, I have been very interested in space. I am especially fascinated by just how much we don’t know. I have always wondered whether or not we are truly alone in the universe. The idea of life on other planets has always been interesting to me – even simple cells. It also makes me wonder about the origins of life on earth, and how the first cells were made. Because of this, I have always wanted to pursue a career in space. When I was younger, I didn’t know much about careers in space, I just knew I wanted to have a job in space without being an astronaut. As I got older, I decided I wanted to be an astrophysicist or an astrobiologist. Last year when we learned about body systems in biology, I became interested in how the body works. Because of this, I have also started to gain interest in being a doctor. I would love to be able to help people and learn more about the body.
I have played the cello since year 3. It is very fun to play my pieces and to learn new pieces. I also like learning more about the composers, and what they are trying to convey through pieces. The last AMEB exam I completed was in 2020 when I received an A+ on my grade 2 exam. I am now in grade 5, and I am starting to learn grade 6 technical work. I love my instrument and my teacher is amazing, and I am so happy I decided to play cello.
My Favourite…
Book: I have so many that it’s hard to keep track. I am reading all of the books in the “riordanverse” (Percy Jackson and similar) and have really enjoyed every book so far. The stories are all so suspenseful while maintaining humour throughout the book. I also really enjoyed the Hunger Games when I read them, especially Catching Fire and the Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. The twists throughout the books are amazing, and I really like the world and characters. the A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder series is also one of my favourites, as it is so suspenseful and just when you think you have it figured out, you get another twist thrown at you. As for nonfiction, I love “Unlocking the Universe” by Stephen and Lucy hawking. It really fueled my interest in space in years 5 and 6. I also love the “What If” books by Randall Munroe. They aren’t quite as serious as some other non fiction books I have read, but they are very entertaining. Seeing such absurd questions answered with science is very fun to read, especially with the humourous tone of the book and the simple drawings.
Movie: Probably the recorded version of Hamilton on Disney+, or the Catching Fire movie
Song: This is constantly changing, but currently it is probably either “So It Goes..” “I Can Fix Him (No Really I Can)” or “cowboy like me” by Taylor Swift, or “obsessed” or “get him back!” by Olivia Rodrigo.
Musician: Taylor Swift
Colour: Baby Pink
TV Show: Brooklyn 99 or The Simpsons
Sport: Netball or Basketball
Place I’ve Been: Broome or Big White (ski resort)
Subject: Maths and Science
Least Favourite Subject: English and HASS
Weekday: Tuesday (I have double science and maths)
Capabilities
I think I best show the capabilities of organisation, problem-solving and leadership. I show organisation by always being prepared. I utilise my diary to make sure that I never forget about homework or any upcoming assessments. I also try never to leave work to the last minute. I show problem-solving by working through issues with friends and teammates and finding a compromise for everyone. I have had many opportunities over the years to work on my leadership, from being a morning fitness leader in year 6 and planning house day, to being on the house council today. From these opportunities I have learned that leadership isn’t just bossing people around, it is about serving others in your community and sacrificing your time to help others.
