Water Cycle – Science – 2022

This week in science, we were given multiple choices of problems that can change or ruin the water cycle. I chose dams and oil spills, researching how they affect the water cycle. Here are my notes

Dams alter the speed of the cycle with the wall of the dam. If the dam breaks, it also changes the speed of the process. The water rushed out at tremendous speeds with the pressure released, often flooding. More than 60% of the earth’s lakes have dams. Dams block up the dirt with rocks, affecting the cycle even more. We can stop this by removing or lowering barriers all around the world.

The oil does not dissolve in water, making the water sludgy and black and stopping some evaporation. The oil suffocates fish and damages bird wings, leaving them trapped. The oil spills contain photosynthesis in aquatic plants. We can prevent this by having people report oil spills quickly or monitoring oil plants to ensure no spills.

We also had to research and take notes on greywater recycling.

Greywater is wastewater from non-toilet plumbing systems like hand basins, showers etc… When used properly, we can recycle greywater for garden use. Never reuse water from toilets or kitchen water.
