MAKING A
POSITIVE
DIFFERENCE
IN OURSEIVES

An assessment in English this year required me to work in a team to prepare and deliver an effective and educational presentation. During the second week of working on the project, my group and I realised that our presentation was going to take a lot more work than we had planned for. To prevent running out of time to finish our presentation, we needed to find a solution. I though that our approach to using class time to work on the project had flaws that limited the time we had to work on each task. Instead of wasting time at the beginning of each class discussing what needed to be done next, I proposed that we create a timeline that would be a resource for us to use to organize ourselves and our work.

For the first couple weeks of the project, my group neglected working on the project at home. Additionally, there was no way of communicating with the whole group outside of the classroom. This made progress slow, even with the time saved by the timeline resource. I noticed that work wasn’t being completed at the rate we needed. I came up with the suggestion to create a group on Microsoft Teams that would allow us to communicate with everyone involved in the project at the same time. Using that, we planned for afternoons we were free to video call and worked together on the tasks from our own homes.

It was by practicing my problem solving capability that my group was able to recognise issues and respond in time to work most effectively while preparing for our presentation. My ideas to implement a timeline, set-up a group chat, and video call worked well to enhance the productivity of my group and since then I have used these solutions in other group projects this year.
