My Achievement of 2023

At the start of 2023 during January, I tried out for Cockburn WABL (Western Australia Basketball League) and made it. For me, this is a big achievement as I’ve played basketball for a couple of years now and I wanted to take a step up and become more competitive. I was up against people who have played basketball for a lot longer than me and have played WABL before. This achievement was quite challenging for me as I don’t have the experiences that others have. I was cut from state championships last year, so then this year I came back better for WABL.

What led me to this achievement was 3 months of practice from the end-of-state champs last year to the January WABL trials this year. Multiple people were involved in leading to my achievements including a coach who believed I had the potential to play and got me into his team. During the holidays I went to a basketball camp at Cockburn which taught me everything I needed to know for my trials. In the end, the process of making WABL took about 4 months.

I feel great about this achievement as I have also made State championships this year as a bottom-ager compared to last year where I got cut. I am the youngest on my team and I made a higher division than last year. From now on I will keep training hard so that I can make WABL and exceed expectations to make a higher division.
