The Tech Fair is about the year 8 students at all saints teaching the elderly residents at RAAFA. We taught them about the technology that we use everyday of our lives.
At the start of the planning time, we had to brainstorm and come up with things that we are good at to teach the residents at RAAFA. Some of the students including myself had to be tour guides to bring the people around the stations and answer any questions that had about the technology. Some of the stations included virtual reality, social media and drones. I helped research about the social media stand as that is something I’m familiar with. On the day we all got given a group to take around and have a chat with. They told us about how they had nothing like this when they were growing up and how its so different now.
One of the stations was the food station where everyone could have a coffee and cake and talk about what they have seen and ask questions to further their knowledge. My favourite part of the day was teaching the residents the tik tok dance at the end of day and filming it. It was a really nice way to finish the day.
I used lots of capabilities in this process including collaboration and effective communication. I needed collaboration to work with the elderly even when they didn’t understand what I was trying to say. I also needed to work with my classmates in the earlier weeks while brainstorming ideas for the fair. I needed effective communication to work with my group of residents and help them understand anything they didn’t get from the stations.
