THE GIVER
On the June/July 2021 holidays our class was asked to read a book called the Giver, it is a very interesting book filled with mystery. I quite enjoyed the book. Jonas and his friends think they live in a perfect Utopia, but little did they know it was the elders that make those hard decisions for them, they don’t get to have happiness, comfort, and love.
I learnt after reading the giver that there is no perfect world and there will never be, don’t judge a book by its over.

At the beginning of term 3 we had the opportunity to redesign Fremantle Harbour. We got put into groups, in my group there was Ryan, Ash, and Daniel. We had to decide which part of Fremantle Port we would re-design. We chose to do this space of the harbour which is shown below. The first plan was to create a Harbour Bath which is the area that the boats are in. We soon realized that the area was extremely large, so we had to re-think on how we could fix this problem. When we noticed that the harbour was too big we had to use self-awareness, resilience, problem-solving, and effective communication to find a solution to our problem. While we did this we learnt so many things for instance we learnt what the global goals meant and what things went into the categories.

During week 1 we had Mrs Nicole Lockwood attend our school and talk to us about the global goals. We had to think about what would happen in the future. Nicole gave us all the knowledge and a good understanding that we needed to know about Fremantle. We got put into a group of three and had to answer a bunch of questions :
- How do we live with covid and other pandemics?
- How will be protected and enhance the environment?
- What does a covid resilient look like?
After this I had learnt so many diffreant facts about Fremantle and the number of possibilities there could be for change.
I had a better understanding and felt comfortable with this assignment. Mrs Nicole Lockwood made things very clear making sure we got all of the information we needed. Not only did she give us information she gave us tips and advice.

Our group had to cut out a whole bunch of words and photos, and allocate them into the right groups. We had to tell each other why we felt like these belong in specific areas. This activity was extremely enjoyable. Once this was done we then moved onto OneNote to answer questions on the activity. We used collaboration, effective communication, resilience, and problem-solving. We had learnt what global goals where and had a better understanding of what categories are. We had to also put pictures and texts in a allocated area, I felt this cemented my understanding.
This was a fun but challenging activity, you had to bond with you team members and work out what went where which we worked well as a team and did fantastic brain storming together.

Global Goals
Throughout this process we always kept in mind all the livability factors. We had to choose some of the factors to focus on. We had decided to do renewable energy. We choose renewable energy because we wanted an environmentally friendly area and didn’t want any harm to our marine life. We have added grass car parks which will have mesh over the top so the grass will not get damaged. We also have added solar panels on the roof of the parking area. We will use the energy from the solar panels to run power to the cafes and the lights in the area.
We learnt lots of ways in protecting our grassed area. The best idea was what we ended up with. We have been using solar energy for a while now. We learnt different ways to apply our solar energy to our community for example solar energy to run a whole cafés.

Livability factors
We wanted the area to thrive, so we added cafés and fun activities for the kids. Even in the cooler months cafes would help out with activities for the kids. We are really close to the water so we made sure there were lots of bins in the area and very accessible. This would help stop rubbish entering the water. We want the people who come to this area to happy, motivated, respectful and most importantly passionate like we are.

Final Product
Friday week 9 the presentation day came. Lots of parents and visitors came and looked at what we created. I gained knowledge and confidence in public speaking and the global goals. We added a water park for kids to have fun, the inflatable course is all ages. Parents can relax having a bite to eat and a drink. You can arrive at the venue by car or by boat. We have boat parking on the side of the port. There will be life guards patrolling the area, teenagers will be able to apply to be a lifeguard (you would be paid). The grass meshed car park is an area for the cars .The ground is mesh mostly, this makes it easier to maintain and it doesn’t get ruined. The grass car park will have a roof over the cars which on top has solar panels. The solar panels are going to generate electricity for the cafes and the energy around the harbour.
In this assignment we learnt a lot of different ideas. When we presented our vision board to the parents and visitors they came up with even more ideas, which made us improve our ideas and thoughts. I enjoyed working with my classmates and listening to their concepts.
