Year 9 English Reflection

Reflecting on my performance in English this year, I recognize both strengths and areas for improvement. While I have demonstrated a solid understanding of the material, I acknowledge that my effort levels fluctuated, impacting the overall outcome.

One aspect that stands out is my inconsistent effort throughout the course. There were times when I fully engaged with the material, participated actively in class discussions, and submitted assignments promptly. However, there were also instances where my effort waned, and I failed to maintain the same level of commitment. This inconsistency is an area where I believe I can improve. By establishing a more consistent work ethic, I can ensure a steady and positive trajectory in my academic performance.

Additionally, I received feedback on a few assessments where my scores were below expectations, with a few assessments earning a 60%. This signals to me that there is room for improvement in certain areas of the curriculum. To address this, I plan to focus on identifying my weaknesses and seeking additional support, whether through extra study sessions, collaborating with peers, or seeking guidance from the instructor. Understanding the specific areas where I struggled will enable me to target those areas with more focused efforts moving forward.

In moving forward, I am committed to enhancing my overall performance in English. This includes not only refining my understanding of the subject matter but also maintaining a consistent and dedicated approach to my studies. I recognize that improvement is a continuous process, and I am eager to implement these changes to achieve better outcomes in the future. I am confident that by addressing my effort levels and seeking assistance where needed, I can overcome the challenges I faced this year and excel in English.

Earthquake proof structure

The final stage of this task is to produce an e-portfolio entry to summaries the engineering process.

Your e-portfolio should have the following parts:

Share and Communicate:

Representation of the project: provide a brief summary of the project (maximum 100 words)

We aimed to create a building that could withstand earthquakes, using spaghetti sticks and bluetack as substitutes for real materials. To simulate the pressure, we added weight to the structure. We carefully built the model, making the spaghetti sticks strong and using bluetack to reinforce weak points. This project tested our understanding of how structures stay strong and encouraged us to find creative solutions. The final design showed that, even with unusual materials, we could make a strong earthquake-resistant building by working together and thinking creatively.

Overview of the engineering process: provide a brief overview of the engineering process.  What changes would you make to the process that would improve the outcome

The engineering process of building a spaghetti tower involves several key steps. First, there’s the planning phase, where the group discusses and outlines the design, considering factors like stability and earthquake resistance. Then, during the construction phase, the team assembles the tower using spaghetti sticks and reinforces weak points with bluetack. The testing phase involves subjecting the structure to weighted pressure to simulate seismic forces. Finally, there’s the evaluation phase, where the group assesses the tower’s performance and identifies areas for improvement.

To enhance future outcomes, the group might consider incorporating more detailed planning, allocating specific roles to each member, and experimenting with different reinforcement techniques. Additionally, documenting the entire process meticulously would enable the group to learn from each iteration and continuously refine their approach.

Teamwork and collaboration:

  1. In our spaghetti tower project, Kenny spearheaded structural planning, meticulously outlining stability considerations. Mitch, with a hands-on approach, led the construction, deftly assembling the tower using spaghetti sticks. Sam took charge of the testing phase, applying weighted pressure for seismic simulation. Kenny’s analytical skills, Mitch’s practical expertise, and Sam’s precision in testing combined seamlessly. Kenny’s foresight ensured a robust design, Mitch’s craftsmanship brought it to life, and Sam’s testing validated its resilience. This collaborative synergy showcased how the diverse strengths of Kenny, Mitch, and Sam were integral to meeting the engineering challenge effectively.

Spec Basketball

Skills:

Across this semester I have learned how to properly learn the fundamentals of shooting. “Beef” was very helpful in doing that it taught me that I had to have, Balance, use my eyes, Keep my elbow tucked in and have a straight follow-through. Shooting has felt more accurate and now I know when the shot is going in or not. Overall, this has been the most improved skill during this Semester.

Course:

Across this semester we have had a lot of specialists talk to us, In my opinion, the one that helped me the most and was my favorite was the nutritional lesson where we talked about the good foods and the bad foods that will either benefit us or negatively affect us as basketball athletes. Ever since that lesson, I have been taking time and consideration into what I eat before games and training and when I eat it. Overall, this topic was my favorite and most important to me as an athlete.

Collaboration

This year we did year 8 English and we had lots of opportunities for collaboration to be able to show our ideas and learn how to work collaboratively, the examples of how we were able to collaborate were current affairs and the end of term 3. These opportunities helped me develop my collaboration skills with my classmates.

Current affairs segment/ Short story analysis:

The first task that we did collaboratively was the current affairs segment and we had to choose our group’s plan and then film and edit. I contributed by using my phone and I was an actor and I filmed some of our scenes that I wasn’t in. Another thing that I did but was individual was the short story assessment this was a pretty hard task because I kept getting different ideas on what I should do but I didn’t know which one to choose. By the time I chose it now, I just had to figure out how to finish my story. I had some help from Mr. Gatti giving me some ideas that sounded good, so it was just making it all the much harder.

Essay on novel:

Last term we worked on writing essays and while we were doing that we also were reading about the boy in the striped pajamas, this was pretty confronting because I had never written an essay but with good help from the teacher I was able to write a standard essay.

$20 Boss

This semester we did $20 boss, it was pretty challenging process because we didn’t coordinate well enough to be able to present our product to the market, for our process the first thing we did well, was we planned it out pretty well and we did the things that didn’t involve getting the actual materials. We could’ve done better by actually getting our products and collaborating better to finish the final product. Next time I will try to actually pull my side of the weight and do what I’m required to do. But when we were selling the magazines we did pretty good like pulling people in and and selling them

Models and Me

Connections: I have written connections because I value connections with family and friends and they can be there for a lifetime, I’ve also done connections because, that is how you get around in the world without connections you can’t really get anywhere and they can help you, and you can help them.

Legacy: I’ve done legacy because it is what you leave this Earth with and it is what everyone knows you for. It allows the people to know what you’ve achieved throughout your life and it will enable people to remember you for something when you have passed on.

Fun: I’ve done fun because you live once and if you don’t have fun life would be boring because you would just be doing a routine as your life.

Bad Role Model:

For my bad role model I have chosen Chris Brown because he has been caught abusing his partners and doing graffiti work he didn’t really show good values whenever he was on tv he also had severely injured Rihanna and had been doing graffiti. He was also accused of raping a woman in Paris. He had also lied about his relationship with Rihanna on tv.

Good role model:

For my good role model I have done Albert Einstein, I’ve done him because he always had good values and even though he was very smart he still wasn’t arrogant and was an outspoken moral leader and always gave people hope. He also was also the sign of innovation and had given people hope to new technology he also had very good accomplishments he was the one that discovered the theory of relativity. He proved that you didn’t have to do what people thought was normal because he dropped out early but still discovered the theory of relativity

Christmas Market

This year we did

For how we determined the price for the Christmas market for $10 we got like 8000+ beads so we decided we didn’t need to put the price up high for the coasters because it was a bargain. So, we decided to make it $3 because It wasn’t too expensive but it wasn’t too cheap as well, the key chain was 0.50c so we decided to make it less expensive than our coasters so we put it at $2 and our percentage mark-up was 150% for the coasters and 250% for the keyrings, so if we sold majority of our products we would’ve made a profit.

For the decisions we made before the market we decided that we saved our best designs for like halfway through the market. So that we would have good designs that people would still buy our products. We used the experience from the Skeleton Island Game because near to the end of the market we still had some products so we lowered the price so people would buy the items and we gave them bargains like 3 keyrings for 2$ so that we could get those last minute sales that could increase our profit.
