A quote by John C Maxwell states “A leader is one who knows the way, goes the way, and shows the way”. This quote resonated with me in the fact that it reflected the ways that I had shown leadership and teamwork in my Outdoor Learning Program (OLP) Kalbarri camp group, Whether it was leading the group in a hike, abseiling down into the gorges or being in charge of cooking food for each other I was able to develop my leadership skills.
This year at the beginning of August, the Year 9 cohort was given the opportunity to travel to Kalbarri to journey through the beautiful bushes and gorges and challenge ourselves with many different activities such as abseiling, rock-climbing, hiking, swimming, exploring, and cooking. Each activity we participated in incorporated ways to use teamwork and leadership alongside each of my peers in my group.
The camp helped to push myself out of my comfort zone and to experience new things, spending three nights and four days away from home in a tent, overcoming both emotionally and physically challenging situations was such an enriching experience in which I have learnt so much about myself and what I am capable of if I set my mind to something and go forth with courage and determination.
