Project Utopia
This Utopia Project started way back when we first read the book the giver for English. The reason we read the giver was to give us an example and idea on what a Utopia was. After this we had a project in science were, we had to make a sustainable house and make a presentation explaining all the features of our house which made it sustainable. The next part of the journey was for us to learn about liveability factors and what makes a place a great place to live so we could start making our very own utopia. We have most of the information we need to make our own Utopia at this point. Now that we were all confident on what makes a Utopia a Perfect Society, we moved this Project into innovate-ed and learnt about the Global goals which makes up a whole society. When we learnt all the goals it was go time. We were put into groups of three or four with one mission in mind, to make a Perfect society (Utopia) model presentation explaining some of the main liveability goals before the end of the term.
The Process
We were all very excited as we got the decision to make a physical or co-space but before all the fun we had to have a plan on what we were going to choose to get an accreditation for. An accreditation is what you get when you have done a lot of research about a Goal which then you have to get approved by your teacher to get a slip which says you have achieved an good amount of knowledge around the Goal which only four special teacher can give out. You must impress these teachers with all the knowledge your have collected to earn yourself an accreditation slip. My group and I choose to get an accreditation for these 3 goals, (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure) (Good Health and Wellbeing) and (Quality Education). Out of the all the 17 goals these 3 shined out because without them we would not have a healthy running society. I choose goal number Nine which was Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. Without this goal there would be no economy, buildings, and paths for us to walk on and without an economy how are we meant to make money or buy and purchase all our wants and needs. We figured out that without these three goals we could not possibly run a society. After we decided what goals we wanted to have a deeper knowledge about we started working. Each of us would do our research on each of our topics each week and I would work on our co-space (Digital Model). Each week would go normally but there was a twist. Each week a special guest which had a lot of knowledge would come in to talk to us and ask on how we are going and what are plan is. I remember a Doctor from UWA came to my group and loved our idea and complimented us which gave our group a huge boost of confidence to get this project done in a good package.
The Following Up To The Big Day
It was the second last week and there was a lot of pressure. We had finished our co-space, but we had not got our accreditations yet because everyone was wanting one, so the waiting times were very long. Our whole group had all the information ready to tell the specials teacher and so it was our time to present. We stated our points for all 3 off our goals and believe it or not, we got it. My group and I were relieved because for the last week we were preparing for the upcoming presentation were all the special guest and our parents come to see what we have been doing for the last one and a half terms. All this preparation has come to this moment. My group and I (Charlie, Ayneschkanna) had got our station up and ready for the night. We have our computers out to display our model and our presentation, our utopia constitution (Constitutional Monarchy) and we also had pamphlets for those which seem interested in our community. The night had come, and we were staring into the distance waiting for the first parent to approach our station. Soon many parents were coming to our station interested in what our utopia brings to the table.
The Ending
The night was coming to an end and my group felt a stroke of relief as we know that all that preparation came to use and gave us a good result. While doing this Project the most enjoying part was to make the co-space and the most challenging thing was to get the accreditation for goal number 9 because there is a lot of information behind it. While doing this project I have learnt to collaborate better with my peers without arguing because peers tend to disagree a lot and next time we do something like this I would change it so we have a bit more time so we could get more work done. This whole Project was a lot of work which at the start wasn’t that fun but when we got to learn more about it and get into it, it became one of the best projects we had ever done before. I will never forget this project and how long of a process it was but I am eternally grateful that I got to go through this experience with my peers.
