During my time at Lock outdoor ed camp, I learned a lot of new things about myself and a lot of new skills I can use everywhere I go, like teamwork and leadership skills. I learned all this by being able to work with people who I normally don’t hang out with or know well. this has given me the opportunity to improve on certain skills such as leadership organization and resilience.
The entire camp experience was focused on how we as students could manage ourselves meaning we had to take care of our own food and packing or stuff. as a result of this, I was able to improve on my organization from before I even left for camp. packing for the camp was something I wanted to do with minimal help possible to improve on my own personal organization. in order for me to accomplish this goal, I made a list with my other group members of all the food we needed and quantities and divided it up so that everyone knew what they were responsible for bringing. besides that, there were my personal belongings I needed to pack. I was able to pack all my clothes and food without forgetting anything by doing so in a structured manner by using a list for the food and clothes I had to bring then I packed each thing as checked it off the list
While on camp there were many situations where I felt uncomfortable or out of my comfort zone, either because I was doing something I had never done before or whether I was just not in a good situation. During these times I had to be really resilient because I knew that by the end of it I would end up having a lot of fun with some new friends that I have made. an example of this would be when we went rafting. although I was very excited to go down the rapids and I had so much fun with the group something I had to preserve through would be the extremely cold water in the river. in order to get over the freezing cold water, I just focused on how much fun I was having with my mates and how warm I would be when I got back to camp and was sitting around the fire.
Leadership is something that has to be shown everywhere even if you are being led by someone else. It was one of the most important and skills we had to learn in camp I feel like I was able to apply what I was taught to many scenarios. the main thing that comes to mind when I think of a time I used leadership would be when we were climbing at the Qaury and I was helping my classmate ( Oliver) while he was stuck in a tricky position. I was able to talk him into continuing on the wall and help him find the foot and handholds which would help him complete the climb. I particularly enjoyed this because after he finished the climb it made me feel really good and proud of him and myself.
