During year 9 camp, I found that there were many scenarios where teamwork and a display of leadership where needed. Although I demonstrated my ability to work effectively in a team and guide others when they required assistance many times, there is one occasion that stands out from the others, which is when Mr. Allen and our group leader Simone appointed me and some of my other group mates to be group leaders for the day.

The schedule for the year 9 OLP had stated that the group I would stay the night at base camp. while at base camp we had to organize the food, we needed to take out to the gorge and to four ways. This was another stand-out moment where we as a group were able to show effective teamwork, but I was able to show to myself and others the leadership that I had within. On day 3, my group was ready to trek down into the gorge. Before the walk, we had ensured that everyone had securely strapped their day pack on their back. On the walk down to the gorge, we had encountered a remarkably steep drop that became a problem for our group to descend. At this point in time, I had already made it past the drop, but I could see that it wasn’t an easy obstacle to overcome for the rest of my group. Instead of continuing through the path, I was aware of the problem and stayed back at the difficult part of the trail, whilst offering a hand to those who needed it when they went down. I had made it apparent that I was aware that people needed assistance by presenting my services where needed. As we continued to our walk down through the gorge we came to many points where walking in a single file line was necessary. In this situation, it was quite difficult to notice when people further down the line needed the rest of us to wait for them while they got a drink of needed to tie their shoelaces. So as a team we came up with a red light green light system to alert the rest of the line to wait for those who needed help. This camp gave many people and me the opportunity to work with new people as a team and show leadership amongst a group in order for things to run smoothly.
