On the 20th of November 2020 the year 7’s at All Saints hosted a Christmas Market at lunch time. But before this date, a lot of preparation went into it.
The first thing we did for this project was in InnovatED, we got out into groups of 3 and we all interviewed each other with questions relating to Christmas. The questions were things like “What does Christmas mean to people” and “what do you want for Christmas”. These questions helped us to understand what things people of different age groups would like to buy and what christmas means to people.
The next thing we did was in humanities we learnt about economics, and how businesses work and how they can stay running. We also learnt lots of words to do with economics such as shares, profit, income, and loss.
In digital ICT, we used our skills of excel to construct a spreadsheet to help us track our profit, loss, and spending. This spreadsheet helped our group because it helped us to track all the numbers and costs in an organised way.
In English, we started to learn about advertising. We analysed some different ads, and learnt about different components of ads, and what stands out too people.
After we had done all this, we started choosing our groups. We got to choose who we worked with, except we weren’t allowed to work with anyone who was in the same group for the utopia project. I was with Emily and Charlotte, which was a good group.
After choosing our groups we brainstormed some ideas of what products we wanted to make. At first, our group wanted to make stickers, but we then realised that stickers are quite cheap and tacky and they wouldn’t really make much profit.
We then were looking on Pinterest in search of a new idea, and a cool picture of some painted CD’s came up. We thought that the CD’s could be a cool thing to sell, and very easy to make.
After deciding to make the CD’s, we had to write and present a pitch to Miss L to be given the $30 investment. We didn’t get the investment the first time we tried, so we went back and added somethings to increase the wow factor on the CD’s, and make people more likely to buy them. but we didn’t give up and tried again, and on our 2nd try we got it!
After receiving the $30 income, we had to go an purchase our materials, and start creating the products to sell. The creation of the products was fun, but also sometimes got a bit boring because we were just painting over and over again.
At this time, we also started making an ad for our product. We used our knowledge of different techniques that appeal to people, and will encourage people to buy our products.
Then, after finishing all of these important steps, it was finally the day of the Christmas market. Our CD’s sold quite well, with us completely selling out bythe end of the market. We made a total of_ with a profit of _, and a percentage mark up of 379%.
Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed this project, and I found it really fun and interesting.
