Salvation Army

Every Wednesday morning students from All Saints’ College went to the salvation army headquarters in the CBD. They then serve food to those in tough situations, and engage in a conversation with them. In Term 2 Week 5 it was my turn to go and experience what it is like to help out these people. Arriving early at school to ensure we would reach there and return to school on time. I was stationed at the hot pie and sandwiches station, with my two other peers at the coffee and fruit station. During the time spent there, a certain person’s story really stuck with me. One of the gentleman there told me that he thrifted things off the street and turned them into something new. For example he turned an ordinary hat around with ribbons, and suddenly it become something fashionable. Someone with very little, still finds a way to have sum fun and create something new. From him I learnt that I don’t need any fancy tools to achieve my end outcome, if I really desire it then I will find a way to ensure that it happens.

Overall this whole experience was something that I will treasure as it allowed me to hands on help the community.
