What is Project Utopia?

We worked with the Future of the Fremantle team to develop ideas for redesigning the Fremantle Port. It started with a presentation done by the future of the Fremantle team. Then we had an excursion to Fremantle, where we learnt more about the area. Then we started to brainstorm ideas for the area. Over time we kept building on our ideas which led to our vision boards, which we presented to our grandparents.  Some of these ideas were included in our final project. Afterwards, experts came into the College each week to discuss our ideas, what elements we should include in the project, and what we should not do because of restrictions. The final stage included us choosing one of eight areas of the future of Fremantle area to work on. I chose to be in a group with Olivia and Sophie.  We worked on the project in different subjects like English, where we wrote a speech and spoke in front of the class. We used the speech for the final presentation. We also worked on the project through Humanities. We came up with the idea to do a multi-sports centre. Once we finished brainstorming are ideas for the spots centre, we started to design are co-spaces and parts of our map. After a couple of weeks, the project was completed, and we presented it to our parents and staff.

English Speech

Did you know that drowning, on average, kills 236,000 lives a year worldwide? The main pool in the stadium will help swimming clubs and kids learn how to swim, so they will live healthier lives when they use the pool for swimming lessons. It will also be available for anyone to use. We have decided to make it a 50m Olympic-sized pool because it can be used for many different purposes. An additional pool will serve as a water polo pool so that people can train and stay fit. The water polo poll will also serve as a pool for rehab and people with physical disabilities when water polo people are not using it. Rehab will help the elderly or people with long-term injuries. The pool will have facilities like ramps and other gadgets for people with physical disabilities.

Both pools use geothermal energy to keep pools hot or cool when needed. Geothermal energy is, it is energy that is drawn from the core temperature of the earth, and the energy can be turned into hot or cold energy.

The stadium will also have other amenities to help people with disabilities. For example, the stadium’s spas and saunas will help people feel relaxed and calm after hard work. In addition, swimming for 1 hour a week three times a week can help improve a person’s heart health, well-being, weight loss, and flexibility.

Communication

When my group was asked questions from visitors and staff, we would answer them only if we had been talking about it in our speech so we would know how to reply to the comments and if anyone else in the team wanted to add something else to the answer, they would. Sometimes we would tell them the answer, and they would add to their question so we would explain further. When we talked to the parents, it helped us to build our self-confidence.

Collaboration

With my final group for the future of the Fremantle project, we worked productively 24/7. When others were not there, the others would help and do a part of the project. For example, when Oliva and I were away for a competition, Sophie was by herself, but she still helped and did the work until we were back to help. When we were all together, we would ensure that we each had an equal amount of work to do to complete it in time. Ultimately, everything we did helped us complete the project before the deadline.

The Idea

Presentation for project Utopia

It all started with a previous idea to have a multisport centre. Over time we expanded our thoughts for the sports centre. In the end, our final product had ameliorated. It had features that other sports centres lack, like a velodrome and other features that, if made, would get lots of business for the centre because the resources are rare to use in other places.
