This term in health, we began keys for life, a program with the aim of preparing year 10’s for their drivers license. As a part this, we are required to create a campaign against a certain issue in young drivers. The issue I chose was distracted driving as this can be particularly problematic for the target audience as these distractions include things like our phones or passengers.

What I Learnt

While making this infographic, I learnt about how dangerous distracted driving is and how many accidents are caused by young drivers on their phones. Although I had already learnt that driving with phones or loud passengers can impact driving ability, I had never realised how many fatalities have been caused by this. Creating this has helped me to understand how to deal with distractions and minimise problems while driving.

My Advice

Always be alert and keep your eyes on the road. I have only recently learned how fast an accident can happen when you are not paying attention. Especially as a new driver it is extremely important to be aware of all other factors on the road. Things such as other vehicles, weather and traffic you can not control which can lead to extra stress as things may be different or harder to navigate in, however, as long as you are aware of these details and ensure you are driving safely, there is nothing to worry about.

My Pledge

I pledge to:

  • always pay attention when driving
  • never distract the driver
  • never get distracted by my phone or passengers
  • never get distracted by objects out side of the car

I picked these things to commit to because they are the main reasons for crashes involving distracted drivers. Taking this pledge will hopefully minimise the chance of me getting into a fatal crash and not only saving my live but many others as well. This pledge addresses every part of distracted driving in broad detail, distraction via phone, loud or annoying passengers and finally things like animals outside the car.

I know I will stick by this pledge as most of them are little things I can make sure I do before I get in the car. As this pledge mostly contains things that are part of our common sense, I think I will find it fairly easy to stick by.
