Role Models

The good

This is my healthy role model influencer, Elon Musk. He is an entrepreneur and billionaire. He has founded and supported many massively successful companies including PayPal, Space X, Tesla and Twitter. He grew up less advantaged but threw good technology, investing and business skills he became one of the richest people in the world.

Healthy Behaviours Showed by him

He shows many healthy behaviour such as staying in shape, eating healthily and getting excersie. He also shows other healthy social and acdemic behaviours such as. socialising and mantaining good friend ships and ,when he was at school, spending time on his studies and being a good student.

What do They Look Like? Are they healthy?

Elon looks pretty healthy. He does not look unhealthy. He is not overwait and he looks well groomed. He stays in shape and is generaly healthy. He does not take drugs. He is not overly fit but he sems to be pretty average in athletic ability.

What Message Does He Promet? Why is it inspiring?

He promotes a message through his succes that anyone can achieve high levels of succes with enough hard work. He also promets the message that you should keep trying. The main way he shows this is even when he had lost nearly all his money and his companies were all failing he used his own money to keep them afloate and kept working and it payed of with all his companies serviving. These are both positive and inspiering messages as it shows people that they should do what they want and if work hard and keep trying they can achieve nearly anything.

Why should young people look up to him as a role model?

Because he Achived very high levels of succes. This would not be a reason on its own, but because he achived this through hard work, knowledge and constant work. These skills are all things that all young people should strive for and do in their lives.

What Values Does He demonstarte?

hard work – through his contant work on his companes and never giving up.

philanthropy and giving back – through his large amounts of donations and his charateries.

The bad

This is my unhealthy role model influencer, Jake Paul. Jake Paul was originally an actor on the Disney channel on the show Bizaardvark. He originally started making content on the social media platform Vine in 2013 primarily focused on a college-age audience, but then switched to posting content on YouTube in 2016 when Vine was shut down. His new content on YouTube was more focused on a younger audience around the ages of 10-15.

Unhealthy Behaviours shown by him

Jake Paul has wound up in a number of controversies mostly because of his younger audience. One of the main controversies Jake has had to deal with is when he was sponsored by a gambling/loot box website to promote there services to his audience. During the video, there was no mention that the video had been sponsored and no mention that the site was for gambling at all. This was a large problem as Jake’s viewers were on the younger side making them more suggestible to the advertisement and getting them to more likely use the site. As these viewers were younger they would most likely have to have their own bank/credit card and may have used their parent’s money to purchase the services on this website.

Jake has also recently become very active in the boxing scene in recent time and has competed in 5 fights. This in itself is not the issue but his behaviour before and after the fights is. During these times he has been very aggressive and very taunting. These behaviours would be very bad for children and teenagers to be exposed to and one of their role models could lead to his viewers likely picking up some of these traits.

Do they look unhealthy?

Jake Paul does not necessarily look unhealthy as he is in shape, but he does have a large number of permeant tattoos. These tattoos to some people make him look unhealthy, but to others having tattoos is not unhealthy and is absolutely normal. However, in the broader society tattoos are seen as unhealthy and the average person may believe he is.

What message do they promote?

Jake Paul does not have a specific message, but his content does focus a lot on material wealth and the making of the content itself. The message from this could be extrapolated to be that having material possessions and wealth is a good thing and leads to a happy a better life. This is an unhealthy message as it makes the viewers think that the only way to feel happy and to achieve anything is to be wealthy and this is not possible for everyone which pushes people to not think they are good enough just because they don’t have certain possessions or symbolic items.

Do you think young people should look up to him?

Young people should definitely not be looked up to. A reason for this is that he continently manipulates his audience to do things that would help him, but not really help them like using the services he is promoting which we have already discussed. He is also very sporadic doing dangerous and sometimes illegal things (such as trespassing). These behaviours and activities that he pushes on his audience are definitely not good for a young developing mind.
