Pre-Production
We came up with our original ideas by sitting with our group and having random ideas then we would figure out which one was the best. We took inspiration from Groundhog Day because it was an interesting concept, and it wasn’t too hard to produce and use for our project. Another idea we had was a person in a coma that had things becoming weirder and weirder until they realized that they were in a coma. We decided not to use this idea because they were too complicated to communicate to the audience. Our idea was a person living in a Groundhog Day and every time they died, they came back at the start of the day, so they would have to live the day over again. It told the story of a guy that was having trouble getting through one day. Our brainstorming style was quite good because we all communicated with each other. Next time we could get more group involvement because sometimes people would get distracted. We made a shot list, script, and a brainstorming page to help us come up with this idea and evolve it over time. These documents were very helpful for our work because we could use them to help us communicate our ideas, so we knew what we were doing at any point during our project.
Production
We used cameras to film our movie and we also used the gimble. This helped us control the camera. We also use several mics for better quality audio. We used this equipment in many ways. We use it all to make the best movie we possibly could. The tech would often fail to work, and we had to over come this a lot. We could have improved our use of the technology by using more of it. There was a lost opportunity by not using all the tech that was available to us. We learnt through the production that we need to use all the technology and time we are given efficiently so we could make a better-quality movie.
Post Production
In our postproduction we had a lot of challenges. Most of the time we were working on this there was always issues that we had to overcome. We edited our movie in groups of two, this means we split our group in half. In hindsight, we probably should have edited by ourselves, so we didn’t rely on our other group members to finish the work. We used Premiere Pro to edit our movie, this could be frustrating at times because it wouldn’t work. The main editing part went well, however, it was very hard because we would just run in to problem constantly. If we were to do this again, we would edit this by ourselves, use more communication for footage, use the software more efficiently, and finally work better as a team.
Final Evaluation
The best part of our production was probably the high quality of the shots and the effort that we put into them. However, there are a lot of areas that need to be improved in the story. It was quite jumbled and that made is hard to understand. We made a lot of mistakes, however we learned from them and we can use the knowledge we now have to make a better film next time. While we were in production we didn’t get all the shots we needed. This made it hard to edit and it just made everything so much harder. That is why we learnt the power of organization and communication. These to things would have helped us finish what we need to use for our film. Editing was also hard because, our group members being away with COVID, software not working, not having the shots for the film, having to restart because we lost our project, and the lack of organization. This made us have a film that was not up to standards. If we could have done all these things perfectly then I think this film would be a really good project to show off. However, all of these obstacles made it very difficult and harder then it should have been. I really want the opportunity to do this again so we can make a film that we are satisfied with.
