Hi, I’m Amber.

“The earth has music for those who listen.”

– William Shakespeare

Hi, my name is Amber. I am a hard-working, responsible and empathetic person. These are three qualities that I believe are important for any person to have, no matter their situation, and therefore, I strive to be defined by them. Whether I’m on the court or in the classroom, I always aim high and work hard. I am a very active person, and I love being outdoors. I was born and raised in Perth, but it is a dream of mine to travel the world and experience the culture and environment of different places.

Strengths & Skills

Some of my strengths include self-awareness, persistence, resilience, empathy, leadership and my willingness to learn. I utilise these strengths on a day-to-day basis, and they help me to achieve my goals.

My persistence and resilience motivate me to keep going, no matter what life throws at me. They help me to keep my chin up and see the positive side of life, as well as problem-solve my way out of tough situations. Self-awareness is often confused with self-consciousness, but the difference is that being self-aware boosts confidence and creativity, whilst self-consciousness can often have the opposite results. My self-awareness helps me to understand my own emotions, skills and strengths, which can help me to communicate effectively and be more assertive. It allows me to understand how others perceive me, so I can strengthen my relationships with them. This ties in with another one of my strengths, leadership. Being a leader requires you to be able to develop good, strong relationships with others. I often naturally take on leadership roles in group work situations. As a leader, I am able to effectively communicate and collaborate with my peers, all the while keeping myself on-task. My willingness to learn comes from my curious mind. I am always looking for answers, and learning is the best way to discover them. This strength helps me to aim high, not just academically, but in everything I do.

My skills include public speaking, organisation, communication, problem solving and teamwork. These skills help me in my classroom environment, and are also important for me to develop for the future.

Organisation is a skill that has developed alongside my independence. As soon as I started becoming more independent, I found that I had to be more organised and manage my time carefully. With this skill, I am able to stay on top of everything and ensure that I have time for everything in my schedule. Communication skills tie in with teamwork, as you cannot work collaboratively without effective communication. Public speaking is a skill that I am quite confident with, as it come quite naturally to me, although there is always room for improvement.

My skills and strengths have helped me with my extracurricular activities. These include basketball, swimming, running club, choir and piano. I also performed in the 40 Years Later Production.

I won Champion Girl in 2019.

With my skills and strengths I have achieved:

  • Primary school House Captain
  • Athletics Champion Girl (2018, 2019) and Runner-Up Champion (2020)
  • Interschool Numero competition representative (Year 6)
  • English Award primary school
  • Academic Scholarship to All Saints’ (Year 7)
  • Year 7 Service Representative
  • Member of the Future Problem Solvers team 2021
  • Interschool Sports
  • Competing in math competitions (AMC, ICAS)
  • Representing the college in WAJO
  • English Award Winner 2022

Interests

My interests vary, as I like to try new things. One of my main interests is basketball. I decided to play a team sport, because it helps me to strengthen my communication skills and helped to teach me interdependence. I currently play WABL and I am aiming to make state teams in the future.

Another of my interests is music. I play piano and I am beginning to learn guitar. I also love to sing. Throughout my primary school years, I was always involved in the school choir and band, and this year I was a member of the year 7 choir. These interests have helped me to develop a good work ethic and become more organised, as I have to put much of my time and effort into practice, as well as balancing out my schedule.

Travelling is one of my favourite things to do. Life is short, and I am all about experiencing different things and creating memories during the time we have. My favourite place that I have travelled to is Italy. Their rich culture, fascinating history and delicious food made the visit very memorable.

My favourite subject in school has always been English, as I enjoy reading and writing very much. I would consider myself a bookworm, as I am always reading at whatever chance I get. I prefer to read fiction novels over non-fiction novels, as there is something magical in being able to interpret and imagine a world which isn’t your own, and make it yours. My favourite type of text to write are narratives, and I have entered a short story that has been featured in the 2022 All Saints College Epilogue magazine. My favourite genres to read are fantasy, horror, crime-fiction, thrillers, and romance.

Goals

Over my next 5 years at All Saints’, there are many things I am aiming to achieve within the college and externally. I am aiming to become a house councillor, achieve high academic results and possibly become College Captain or House Captain. I am also working towards a good ATAR score. In the future, I would like to study in the health science area. I am currently looking at criminology, forensics, psychology and psychiatry. I find humans and the human mind incredibly interesting, and I would like for this interest to extend into my future career.
