Yr. 8 InnovatED Term 2 Showcase

On Wednesday week 8, the year 8’s presented their projects and the prosses they went through. Aisha, Emily and me were in the arts and crafts innovated and our group wanted to create a project that helps cats, so we decided to make blankets and donate them to a cat home.

OUR PROCESS

I joined our group later in the project when Emily and Aisha had already come up with the idea to create cat blankets and donate them to a charity supporting cats. The next step of our design process would be to go into detail on the specifics. for example, figuring out what charity we were going to donate them to and allocating roles. First of all, we decided to donate the blankets to cat haven because one of our team members, had experience with adopting their cats and discovered they were a reputable and reliable charity. Then we started to allocate roles by looking at all of our teams mates abilities and interests. Our roles ended up being Aisha cut and stuffed the fabric, Emily sewed the fabric into blankets and me sewing on cosmetic patches. Then we got to work. Our group working productively and in a coordinated manner t finish as many products as possible, with some group members taking items home to work on, on the weekend.

Quicker than we thought, the presentation day approached, so we began to prepare a detailed presentation on our process so far, as well as any other important information, that could aid in the understanding of any parents/ teachers/ students that would attend. Beginning a similar process, we began allocating roles so we could finish the preparation for the presentation in a timely manner. Our roles ended up being, Aisha prepared pamphlets that would include contact information and necessary information for anyone who wanted to support the same charity like us, Cat Haven. Emily was allocated to writing a timeline of our project and an outline of the details of our project. I was allocated to the design aspects, to make our presentation aesthetically pleasing and appropriate to our theme. Unfortunately, as the day approached it became clear that I would be unable to attend, so I delivered all the work I had completed and hoped the presentation would be a success.

CONCLUSION

Reflecting on the project I can conclude that our group was successful. Some of the aspects that our group excelled with was allocating roles, effective designs and empathizing with our charity, The Cat Haven. Something I would do differently if I did a similar project was managing my time more effectively because when the project progressed, I found myself spending more time at home completing items for the project. Overall, I believe I enjoyed this experience and I hope my teammates did too.
