Mindsets

Fixed:

I was the age of eight when I was first learning how to swim the stoke ‘Butterfly”, and at the time I found it extremely challenging to grasp the concept and understands how to swim it. I was having a hard time learning the timing of the kicks and strokes. And at that time, I, unfortunately, had a fixed mindset. The thoughts of ‘you can’t swim butterfly’ and ‘you’re useless at swimming’ kept popping into my head. Those self-conscious thoughts nearly got the better of me and made me think ‘I could never improve my butterfly technique’.

Growth:

Swim training after swim training, I still couldn’t grasp the ‘correct’ technique to swim the stroke. I eventually had to ask my parents for help as I couldn’t learn it by myself. My parents informed my swim coach that I needed extra guidance and help when I’m training. I received the coaching with the correct technique and slowly my times got better, I understood how to swim it and the timing became more natural.
