The Innovat[ED] STEM in Sports program focused on targetting an audience with a product or providing a service for one of the College’s Catalyst Partners. For Term two Innovat[ED], our group decided to provide a service for the RAAFA Residents.
We followed the ASC Design Thinking Process and started at the ’empathising’ phase. We empathised our target audiences, and what would appeal to them. We moved on to the ‘define’ stage, where we defined what services we could provide. We moved onto the ‘ideating’ phase, where we started ideating mindfulness activities that the residents in RAAFA could engage in. After a few weeks of ‘ideating’, we eventually decided our product would be mandala booklets, so we started the ‘prototyping’ phase.
We used the ASC Capabilities to help us with our service to RAAFA. The ASC Capabilities we used to help us, were Collaboration, Effective Communication and Problem Solving. An example of us using collaborating, was when we were prototyping the mandalas, in our group. A good example of effective communication, was when we reached out to Mr Corbett and got in contact with RAAFA. One example of problem-solving was when we had to reformat the Mandala Booklets to print them out.
We wanted our idea to be original and unique so, instead of downloading mandalas off the internet, we used online software, which enabled us to design the mandalas by hand.
