Overview

This semester for InnovatED I chose to work with the school’s chickens. Ebony, Caitie, Zoe and I all chose to work together in educating the junior school in how to take care of the school’s 4 chickens, daily maintenance, how to pet/ hold a chicken and more. In this we have had to clean up after them, feed them, collect their eggs, clean up their scraps and change their water. We originally arranged for the kids to come to the hanger, where the chickens are. We would then be able to teach them general care of chickens ect. In this original plan we were going to work with the pre-primary and year 1 students. As the covid restrictions got put in place we had to change our idea and make an interactive power point for them instead. We did end up finishing this power point (and is linked below) however, of course the covid restrictions got lifted and now we have the opportunity to work with the year 5’s and teach them how to look after the chickens so that at the end of the term they can take over the role of looking after them as InnovatED chickens will not continue.

What Could We Do Better?

There are many aspects of this project/ subject that I feel that my group and I could improve on. There were many lessons that we got distracted in and didn’t complete much work, we weren’t always enthusiastic on all of the tasks required of us and we didn’t always take the lesson seriously.

If I were to repeat this project I would try to get my work done quicker and to a higher quality. I would also try to complete all of my tasks to a higher standard so that I am making sure the chickens have the best life possible. I also think that I would do a different task to do with the chickens, as due to the covid restrictions our project wasn’t as engaging as we previously thought, which resulted in our slow working pace. If repeating the same thing we did this time or even a different project I will 100% try to work quicker, better and more engaged.
