Specialised Basketball Reflection

My 6 Week Program:

My weekly plan is to be repeated for 6 weeks. I have scheduled in time for school and homework, as well as my sports, and time for my endurance, flexibility, strength, skill development and recovery.

I made a separate timetable for my meals that can be seen below.

My meals have been carefully planned to ensure I get the correct intake of protein and calories to sustain the mass amounts of exercise I do. These meals are spread evenly throughout the day with a different meal each day.

Skills I’ve Learnt:

During this semester in specialised basketball I have learnt a lot about defence.

Defence in basketball is a crucial aspect of the game that focuses on preventing the opposing team from scoring. It is implemented through a variety of strategies and techniques, that I learnt in this course, aimed at disrupting the offensive flow and creating turnovers. One common defensive tactic is man-on-man defence, where each player is responsible for guarding a specific opponent. This approach emphasizes individual matchups, with defenders using their positioning, footwork, and quickness to stay in front of their assigned player and block shots. I have implemented this in my class gameplay as best possible which has allowed for improvement in my team defence which is vital, requiring players to communicate, switch assignments, and provide help defence when a teammate is beaten. Overall, a strong defensive effort in basketball involves a combination of individual skills, teamwork, and tactical awareness to disrupt the opposing team’s offense and secure victory.

Course That Helped Me- Strapping Course

Knowing how to apply physio strapping is essential for athletes participating in sports. Physio strapping, also known as athletic taping, involves using adhesive tape to provide support and stability to joints, muscles, and ligaments, thereby reducing the risk of injury or re-injury. Properly applied strapping can help athletes recover from existing injuries, prevent further damage, and enhance performance. By stabilizing joints, strapping provides additional support and limits excessive movement, helping athletes maintain proper alignment and technique during sports activities. It can also alleviate pain and discomfort by reducing stress on injured or vulnerable areas. Physio strapping techniques vary depending on the specific injury or area being supported, so athletes must learn how to apply tape correctly and efficiently. Through the strapping course we learnt how to strap some very common basketball injuries which include thumbs, fingers and ankles. This knowledge empowers athletes to take an active role in their own injury management, promoting a faster and safer return to sports. Furthermore, athletes who understand physio strapping can provide support to their teammates in case of injuries during training or competition, demonstrating the importance of this skill for a well-rounded and responsible athlete.
