Drinking Expo

Overview

In health this term we learnt about all of the dangers of drinking. We had around 7 weeks in class to get creative and come up with a way to educate another class in the college through the expo. The research we conducted consisted of 3-4 different topics to do with drinking. In the final expo we had to showcase this information in an engaging and interactive way to educate our peers on drinking. Ebony and Caitie were the other two members of my group. However, unfortunately on the day of the expo both Caitie and I were both sick. Though throughout our whole preparation we worked together to produce the best expo idea. We chose a popular drinking game, beer pong, to show how much a person would consume in that game. We put questions in the cups that had to be answered correctly for the cup to be taken away. On a whole I have enjoyed this project as it was a fun way to learn important information and helped me remember it.

What Were The Biggest Things I Learnt During This Task?

I learnt many things during this task both life skills and about drinking. There were many challenges that my group and I had to overcome in all stages of the project. I learnt that for this project to run smoothly the group had to be organised and everyone had to have access to everything. This helped us especially when sadly Caitie and I were absent for the expo. When coming up for the original idea for the project we had to be creative and think of an interactive and fun way to get our idea across successfully. We brainstormed many option however, we decided that beer pong was the best way we felt we could achieve our goal. We had to collaborate and cooperate when doing research, bringing in the things needed for the expo and coming up with the ideas for the questions. I learnt many things about binge drinking, what BAC is, short and long term effects of drinking, how to care for a drunk person, why some people drink, how much is in a standard drink ect. All of these facts and skills will assist me as i get older with other challenges that present themselves to me.

What Is One Piece Of Advice Would I Pass On To Young Teenagers Above All Else? Why?

One thing that I think is important for all teenagers to know is that no matter how much drinking seems like it’s ‘cool’ it has many damaging effects both physically and mentally. Most teenagers drink not aware of the risks or completely disregarding them however as the short affects can be vomiting or bad decision making the long term effects are much more serious. These effects can include heart failure and many brain diseases. These risks also don’t disappear after you turn 18. Therefore you still need to be cautious about binge drinking. It is and always will be safest to drink small portions so that you are consuming less alcohol to reduce these risks.

How Did You And Your Group Members Work Together? What Did You Do Well And What Could Have Been Improved?

As my group and I are friends there were some worries that we wouldn’t get work done. However, it turned out we worked very efficiently. Our group co-operated well and came up with some good ideas, we worked effectively and used our time wisely. One major thing that needed to be changed was the share of work loads as the amount of work each person did varied drastically. Apart from this aspect my group was very cohesive and collaborated well.
