Term 2’s project X option I chose brought many lessons with it. I learnt so much from the amazing Batuan artists who visited us. We were to create a piece that reflected us as a person, using the Batuan art style. The base was a family picture with a large background, so that we could draw over the background with paint pens and look like we were standing in the middle of an Indonesian world. There were many difficulties in this process. One of which was the fact that paint pens smear on the glossy paper we were working on. But, we overcame this problem with hairdryers! The hot air would swiftly dry ink. Another difficult thing was the fact that you could not draw on the glossy paper with pencil before doing your final pant pen layer. The pencil would indent the paper and leave marks. We used carbon copy paper instead, and that worked really well. Meeting the amazing Batuan artists was SO amazing. They are incredibly talented and taught us so much in the small time they were here. All in all, everyone learnt a huge amount from this project and it was a fascinating thing to work on.
