Considering the importance of work experience, teamwork and leadership I decided to apply for a job. I wanted a job that didn’t interfere with my school work and also gave me free time to study and relax. I applied for a job at Macca’s, which was only during the weekends so I had the whole week to study for tests and do my homework. During my interview I had to demonstrate with examples how I would take initiative, solve problems that might arise with customers and deliveries aswell as collaborating with my co workers. Teamwork is the main component in an environment like Macca’s, where we all depend on each other for orders to go out correctly and cleaning to be done by all and not just a few employees.

Leadership is also another factor in this job that helps the dynamic. A good leader demonstrates, through actions and words, how to achieve good and quality service with the best products within a budget. Since I have been working on front service I have been relied upon by the managers to run counter, dining service and packing deliveries efficiently and in a short period of time with only one other staff member, as time is money in this business.

Being a student at All Saints’ College aswell as a casual worker has put into perspective the importance of having team and leadership skills. The art of communicating with a diverse community inside school and at work has broaden my vocabulary and public speaking skills. I can now more fluently speak my mind in a clear manner and convince others to see things in my perspective.

Working has positively effected my way of life both at home and at school. I am more tolerant to peoples mistakes and will help them solve their problems. I have also become more a team player and enjoy collaborating with my peers.
