Reflection for the Media Advertisement

Describe the process you went through to create your production

The process of making an ad in Project X Media started with us getting into groups to create an ad. After getting into groups we learnt about camera angles. We learnt about how camera angles can change the perspective of and how you perceive the character. We also looked at different ads. Some were examples of really bad ads, but some were also examples of smart ads that project the idea well. After seeing different examples we brainstormed different ad ideas and the possible products we would make an ad on. After we decided on the product for our ad which was ice cream for our group, we made a script with the different components of our filming and ad. We also had to create a story board. Media Storyboard.pptx We finalised our script and then learnt how to use the camera, tripod, and SD card. The next step of the process was to film. After filming for 2 weeks we edited the clips together and then presented it to the class.

How did you come up with the original idea?

My group decided to make an advertisement on ice-cream. We had multiple ideas for the ads we were could, but we chose ice-cream because we thought it would have the best end results We also had lot of really good ideas for filming so we went with it.

Describe three obstacles or challenges that you encountered when creating your production

One obstacle we ran into was costumes. My group had some trouble with costumes. We needed to bring them in on the first week of filming and one group member forgot to bring them. That meant we had to work with the house uniform they already had on and the costume rack in the media room.

Our second problem we ran into was the green screen. We wanted a background that matched our ice cream flavour. After filming we got help from Mr Hamilton but when we changed the background it changed the colour of the ice cream to a bad colour that didn’t look very appetising. That meant we set up the green screen for no reason and we have a plain green background when the set was supposed to be a kitchen.

Our final problem was filming in general. We struggled with angles and centring the camera. We also had to film scenes multiple times because we were either distracted or couldn’t stop laughing.

What would you do differently next time?

If my group and I were to do the process again I think we should have finished the story board and the script much earlier, because that would mean we would have more time film and edit. We also should have planned the days we were filming and editing, so that we would know which days to bring costumes or not.

Overall the whole process was really fun and I learnt a lot about editing and filming.
