What have I learnt? and how has that involved my capabilities? During the Muir course I have greatly improved my use of

Snorkelling

During the snorkelling period of outdoor ED I improved many of my capabilities including teamwork, effective comunication and self awareness. I used all these powers when snorkelling because I was helping my buddy Josh in everything we did, because I was the more confident swimmer I kept Josh motivated and made sure he was alright the whole time we were snorkelling. During snorkelling the most interesting thing we’ve done so far was definitely the ship wreck at coogie beach.

Archery

During archery we met our teacher who was this very nice scottish lady, she was very skilled at archery and tought us well enough that most people could easily be hitting a couple 10 point shots a lesson. I really enjoyed archery because the teacher made it fun and I was good at it so that made it even easier to enjoy. Throughout archery I refined even more of my capabilities especially with my mindfulness, mindfulness definitely helped me with my archery because in archery you have to be able to focus on one thing for a period of time easily. I think that because of how we had to refine that skill in archery it definitely helped me to aim better and achieve a higher score each lesson.

Camp

When we were on camp we used all of our capabilities because we covered almost every aspect of Muir during the camp, whilst we snorkelled I used teamwork and even communication through hand signals. When we were walking around the camp and just out in public on the island we all displayed, ethical behaviour, self awareness

Leave No Trace

Leave No Trace is a key element in the entirety of the Muir course, leave no trace means to clean up after yourself and make sure where ever you were is left spotless like you were never there. We used leave no trace very often during Muir especially in orienteering so far. Everytime we went orienteering we made sure to do this technique called an “emu stalk” where we would all line up and cover a full circle of where we had stayed for the lesson. I remember on the one day excursion especially we found quite a bit of rubbish that wasn’t actually ours but we still managed to clean it up and leave the place in even better condition than it was before we were there.
