During the 2023 Year 9 English curriculum I along side my peers took part in several assessments and projects that tested different aspects of our English capabilities, ranging from creative writing to essay construction. Out of all the tasks presented to us, I believe I did best in the short-story/narrative writing task specifically. Not only was this one of my highest marks, but it was also was the project I enjoyed most, if at all. We had several weeks to construct our story, allowing time for planning, drafting, writing, and re-writing. I think that I thrive in creative writing because it has few restrictions concerning the limitations and structure of the writing. It was also a ‘take home’ project, meaning there is little time pressure allowing for a maximum quality of writing. However, an area where I struggled was in the essay writing. This is because it takes away all of the qualities of creative writing which allow me to write well. There are clear boundaries that restrict how well I can write, a cage like environment that detriments my capability to find my ideas, and on top of that there is a 50 minute time limit. Looking ahead, I will be needing to improve on my essay writing skills.
