Reflection on Covid-19

Due to Covid-19, 2020 has been a strange year because so much has changes. Although it was tough being restricted to mostly stay inside it gave us all a chance to find out what really matter to us.

Personally, I learnt that I really value my friends and being with them. Once I found out that we were going to move to online school I wasn’t really happy but I also didn’t really mind. After a few days, I realised how much my friends meant to me and how much better it was learning with them and talking to them. I also learnt that I can motivate myself to practice my sports like AFL and basketball so I’m ready for when the seasons actually start.

In my family, I was happy that I could still go for a kick of the footy with my brother and Dad. Although, I thought that it was quite distracting trying to work at home when I could just go talk to my family and do stuff with them.

In my community, I learnt that we could abide by the restrictions and listen to what we were told so we wouldn’t spread the virus. This made me realise, that we are a great community and we can work together to get through these tough times.

InnovatED Reflection

The Christmas market for our group was a huge success. Leading up to the day our group wasn’t feeling to confident in our product and were thinking that it would be a struggle to reach the $50 mark. Once it finished though we were very happy and relieved because we realised we had made $18 profit. All in all, it was a great experience and it was a good way to work on our teamwork and collaboration with others.

Health Reflection

At the beginning of this health unit I had many social media platforms. Some of these platforms include Instagram and Messages. I use these apps to communicate with others and also watch funny videos. Some of the key ideas I learnt about were critical thinking, empathy, respect, responsibility and being ESAFE. The subject that I enjoyed the most was empathy. I liked it because we got to learn how what we do can affect other people. We also learnt that when using empathy we have to try and put ourselves in other people’s shoes to see how they are feeling. I also found this really useful because it taught me that I should always think about my actions and words because it can hurt other people. The subject that I found really confronting was critical thinking. This is because it taught us that we should always think about our actions. Also, if we make the wrong decision it can really hurt and impact us in a negative way. Going back to empathy, it has really changed my opinion on my actions. I used to always be toxic to my friends on gaming platforms. I always used to think of it as a joke and a little bit of banter but after this booklet my opinion has changed. I have learnt how I may see it as a joke but the person I am being toxic may not but is just going on with it. After learning about these ideas it has really affected the way I think about social media. Now I am always going to be careful about what I am saying on social media but also on online gaming platforms. The comments that I got about on the padlet were really supportive of my ideas and opinions. They said what I wanted to change was really interesting and was definitely something that we should change in the future. They definitely wanted to be like me and try and stop being to toxic to my friends so that they don’t accidentally harm our relationships.

Leadership

I have showed leadership in many ways over the course of my life. One of the ways I have done this is when I was Forrest House Captain for the Junior School. I had to show leadership by being a good role model for the younger kids. Tunmise and I also had to speak at assembly about a special habit, explaining and showing it in a situation. Another way I have showed leadership was being captain for my footy team for the whole season, chosen by my coach. Being the captain, I had to lead from the front and set a good example for the other players. All in all, I have showed leadership in many ways.

Life Under Water

For Innovat Ed I chose the 14th Global Goal which is all about plastic in the ocean and how it affects the sea life. Our end goal was to go to a river cleanup and we accomplished that but there was a big lead up to it. Our whole group split into 3 groups to work on research, marketing and action. The research team had to research about the ocean and the facts surrounding plastic and how it gets into the ocean. The marketing team had to find ways to spread the word about what we were doing and raise awareness. The action team had to think about how the river cleanup would work and figure out all the details about it.

Innovat ED Week 6

This week in Innovat ED we kept working on our minecraft world. We are using a minecraft world to represent how plastic gets into the ocean and how it affects coral and fish. So far, we have built a coral reef with lots of fish and turtles in it and have nearly finished our house which has instructions above the door about how the world works and how the plastic gets in.
