This year, many students in years 9 and 10 including myself attended a camp within the Lock and Blair elective provided at All Saints College. This camp was over the span of three days which included many different activities to help students develop the use of capabilities and to push the boundaries of their comfort zone. These activities helped many of us realise how thankful we were for everyday things that we weren’t able to access on camp.
During this camp, I developed many capabilities that helped me display my personality within our group that many people may not have known about me previously. This camp helped me improve on the capability of Leadership and Organisation the most within the 3 days. During the first day, My group had each brought certain food items to make that nights dinner. Splitting the food between us helped us all keep organised and fair between the group as we did not all bring food for ourselves rather share it with us. When it then came to mealtime, sharing a fire with another group was needed as there were limited fires within our class. To make our dinner, we needed someone to step up to organise the rest of the group and prepare the food. At first, no one was interested as it seemed a difficult job. I then stepped up to organise the group. This benefited our group as the leadership I had shown at that moment was perfect for our group to then start cooking our tacos. I had planned for someone to keep an eye on the fire with someone stirring the pot while 2 others were cutting up the vegetables. My group was then thankful that I was able to step up and organise our dinner, which we were able to make some perfect tacos for us to enjoy.
During this camp, leadership didn’t only help me gain confidence, it helped other people gain confidence with what they were doing aswell. During the 3 days, I had not only developed the capability of leadership and organisation, but I also developed the meaning of teamwork within a group, improving everyone personally.
