The RAC be streetsmart excursion was incredibly informative and hard-hitting, and taught me that it is crucial to recognize the inherent risks associated with certain actions while operating a vehicle, such as driving while fatigued, under the influence of alcohol, distracted, or speeding. It showed me that engaging in any of these behaviors can lead to catastrophic outcomes, profoundly impacting both the victim’s life and the lives of your loved ones.

In order to foster a safer driving environment, particularly for young drivers who may be more prone to risky behaviors, it is crucial to pass on the knowledge that if you have any doubts about the safety of a situation, it is best to err on the side of caution. Trusting your instincts and recognizing that negative driving behaviors are not the right thing to do is an essential skill to develop as a young or learner driver.

As someone getting ready to learn how to drive, I pledge to never drive under any of the aforementioned circumstances. This excursion showed me just how common and devastating the consequences are of people driving while fatigued, under the influence, or distracted, as well as people who don’t take the weather into consideration or make irresponsible decisions as drivers or passengers. This excursion was eye-opening, and I’m glad that us as students who are soon to be on our roads had the opportunity to see the devastating consequences these actions can cause, and showed us how to prevent road accidents from happening.
