Future of Fremantle

In Innovated, we did a project called Project Utopia. In Project Utopia, we looked at how we’re going to reshape the Fremantle Port area, as the port is moving to Kwinana.

Urbanized

In English, we did an assessment on a documentary called Urbanized. The documentary is about how some countries have made their area into a more livable place. For example in Denmark, they want people to start riding bikes to get where they need to go. This is beneficial because it reduces traffic and public transport and fuel emissions.

Our Idea

Our idea for Project Utopia was to have more trees, and a botanical garden. There will also be cafes around the place to enjoy the area. There is also a bike rental area where people can rent bikes to use around the vicinity of the Fremantle Port area. This is to help people with transport. We also used “Cospaces”, which is an augmented reality app, which we used to show our vision for the Fremantle Port.

Capabilities Our Group Used in this Project

For Project Utopia, we were arranged into groups and used problem-solving methods, because we had some challenges to face. We had to collaborate, because we had to listen to each member’s contributions. Since we had five people, on occasions our group went off task and we used leadership to get back on track. We learned that working in groups is about leveraging the different strengths that each person can contribute. We also learned to give each other the space to contribute and be respectful of those contributions.

The future.

Our group is excited by the vision shown by Project Utopia. Drawing on the positive experiences shown by European countries like Denmark, we feel the Fremantle Port area could be further developed to provide a district that better services the local communities. Our ideas also would benefit the environment due to reduced pollution.
