$20 Boss Reflection

$20 Boss is a nationwide program that lets students invest in money to start up their own businesses but also think about important life skills that will be needed in their future life. Initially, I was excited to invest in money and be given a huge responsibility that I knew I couldn’t abuse. My first ideas were coming from past ideas that were at the Christmas market last year that I liked. But I learned quickly that they were out of reach with a tight budget and with very little practice in making things like them. Right away, I realised it wasn’t the business that was the hard part, it was coming up with the idea that was. And even harder is an idea that people would be willing to buy. My team had a few ideas but none of them were good ones. Which is why we had to dig deeper than our comfort zone and really observe some of our everyday problems. I were to do this again, I would reach out more to our target audience and think more about what they would be willing to buy. I wanted to make resin jewellery but I wasn’t sure that people would be willing to buy a product like that. I was pretty good at the IDEATE part of the Design Thinking, our team was struggling for a good idea, but I was firing ideas for our business. I suggested the resin jewellery, I suggested the lip gloss and we were going to do beeswax wraps but then someone else did that. We also had a look on the PowerPoint to get a guideline of what they were asking of us, that was when we knew that the resin jewellery was the right choice. I wasn’t very good at the prototype part, because I didn’t think hard enough about how we would actually make this product work, I had no idea how to make resin, I had done no research, but I was still ambitious about this product. I used creativity when we were in the ideas process, because I was thinking outside of the box and how to make this product sellable. I could improve on this when we were thinking of how to make this, I didn’t do much research about it and was fixed on this idea that it was easy to make and cheap too. I could have never been further from the truth. I also used communication when we were in the thinking process, I wouldn’t make a change to anything unless I had a reason from someone else not to. I could get better at that if I let other people do a bit more as well. I would like to get better at persistence, when an idea becomes too hard, just not giving up and actually continuing with it like I was planning to do. I could do small tasks that include being persistence like painting a picture until I can do big things and still want to do them.

Online Behaviors Post

This unit for me has deepened my awareness of how Social Media manipulates you, and all it can take is 1 mean comment. Most if not all people have and use social media, but only about 65% of those people understand the dangers of posting a photo. If someone has posted a photo of them self then don’t criticize them for it, they have not put that up for you to post something mean or a flaw about that photo, that is called being able to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, this is most commonly known as empathy. Most people don’t think properly about how much a comment could hurt someone’s feelings. Having the respect to say, “Hey maybe I won’t post that mean comment” shows a lot about people and how mature they are. It is important to have critical thinking when posting something online, you might not know at first how someone else could take that the wrong way and hold a grudge for the rest of eternity. Nobody wants that. There is one simple solution for that, stop and think before you post.

Tennis

Out of school at Willetton Tennis Club I have been playing tennis since I was 5 years old. I am in the highest group and I have worked my way up. I spent a whole 4 years in the beginners group. My coaches are Phil, Stefano, Jamie, Allie-Rose, Kate, Justin and Andrew. I am in the same group as Shama Ramachandran in 7V. We go every Saturday mornings, but I have been unable to do this for 6 weeks because I broke my ankle. I start up again tomorrow.

Girl Guides

This year in June, I started going to my local Girl Guides. Some of my friends did it and I wanted to find out what it was about, so I had a go and I loved it! It is so fun playing games and learning in a fun way as well as making new friends and socializing. We meet on Wednesday evenings from 6-8pm. We go on camps and pre-camps every so often to prepare and learn new skills such as putting up our own tents. We went on a dinosaur themed camp recently for 2 nights on 13-15th of September.

England and Paris!

Over the holidays, I went overseas to the wet countries that are England and Paris! I learnt about how old everything in England is and the history is just amazing. When I went to Greenwich and found out what Greenwich Mean time is while looking out at a breathtaking view. We visited the TATE which is one of the most beautiful art galleries in the world. You only really discover the beauty of art until you see it face to face. Lots of exciting days later, we were up the top of the Eiffel Tower in Paris! The view of looking down was like being in heaven looking down at the earth! You could see for miles out finding the Sacre Coeur, Le Louvre, Arc de Triomphe and the remains of the burnt down Notre Dame. We had to use the powers of self management in not leaving behind our belongings, creativity with the view at the top of tour eifel and knowledge with being taught all of the interesting facts of London and Paris and being quizzed at the end.

About Me

I am Holly Burwood and I am 12 years old. I have been going to this school since Year 2 and I have meet some amazing people over the years. I am in Cowan (the best house) I have 2 rabbits called Lola and Honey. I am passionate about the environment and trying to save it before it’s too late. I love to share ideas about saving the environment and sharing innovative ideas with everyone, and I love to work in a team. I absolutely love tennis and swimming, as I have been doing both since I was 5 years old. I think that my experience here at All Saints has been amazing and has changed me and it will do for my whole life. My stronger powers are problem solving and creativity because I love to make new things with different ideas. My strengths are teamwork, English, Music, Drama, Food Tech and French. If I were to have 1 wish it were to be to get a dog, because they are just too cute and I love everything about them. I will be sharing on this portfolio about my journey through saving the environment, and my journey throughout Year 7.
