Pasta building project (Science)

At the start of the project, we got into groups, and we had 50 minutes to make the best pasta building we could and then put them on a shake table to see if they could last P waves S waves, and surface waves. Mr. Goor put us into groups and we started to research and plan out our pasta tower when we had everything planned out the teacher gave us another 50 minutes to make a tower, at the start our team’s design did not work so we sat down and did some more designing and we made a sturdy building after the 50 minutes were up everyone put their building up to the test on the table, our building survived P waves and S waves but fell when we did surface waves.

The engineering process we used was we searched and watched a lot of videos about different types of designs used in the real world to withstand an earthquake, we made and whiteboard and brainstormed different ideas we had, and when we started building a prototype and it did not work because the base was too wide and it kept falling over, so we went back to the drawing board and made a hole new design that we thought would work, and we built it and it worked because there was much more support around the base and we also made the base a lot smaller. In the future, the thing that I would change is to have more time and research a lot more.
