Coming up with our product

To come up with our product we first brainstormed all of the products we thought would do well in the Christmas market. We eventually came up with candles, key chains, and bath bombs. These were our top three products. After some discussion, we came up with bath bombs because we thought they would be easier to make. We utilised organisation for our product because we needed to have the organisation to have our product completed by week 6 Friday.

Capabilities

We had to use organisation, collaboration, and resilience. By using thing we could perservere though difficult problems and we could work as a team. By doing this we could be more organised by being able to complete our products on time. Having resilience and collaboration was important as they relied on each other and supported organisation. By working as a team and not giving up, we could be organised to finish our products on time.

Cost spreadsheet

What we next did was create our cost spreadsheet. We needed to go and research where were the cheapest products that we could buy. We researched on the internet and looked at multiple local shops and we found out that the shops that sold the cheapest products were Aussie candle supplies, Woolworths, and Riverton oriental foods. The rest of the products that we purchased was from my mum. We then created a spreadsheet in excel which showed what the costs of our products were. In the end, our total cost was $30.01 however, because of rounding it is $30.

Pitching to Miss Shaw

After we had completed our cost spreadsheet we then pitched to Miss Shaw. We were turned away about 3 or 4 times however, using resilience we managed to fix our mistakes and were finally approved. To get Miss Shaw to approve our product we had to change our packaging, and store location. We were originally thinking to use a paper brown bag but that was rejected. So we then changed it to a spotted plastic bag, because of the supply, we chose to go and buy from a different store at a different place.

Prototype

For our prototype we made a small batch of bath bombs to avoid wasting materials. After we brought it to school Miss Shaw approved our product, however she didn’t like the colour. This was important as we changed the colour to suit Miss Shaw’s likings. For the prototype we made sure that it was high quality so that we wouldn’t be denied and we would have to change products after having bought all of our materials.

Business plan

After showing Miss Shaw our prototype, we started working on our business plan. We created a detailed drawing that looked somewhat to the store that we had on the day. We had to state an averge amount of money that we would spend. We also included many other things and important factors that we had to do to ensure a better market.

Packaging and making our bath bombs

Over 3 days we made our bath bombs using the material we had bought, which were a variety of colours and patterns. We brought them to school after 2 long days of drying and packaged most of them. We then went to my house to go and package all of them and to seal the rest. We packaged many different types of bath bombs such as christmas pudding and snowmen.

Skeleton Island game

During our Humanities lesson we learnt about supply and demand. We did this through a fun and interactive game which we are trapped on an island and we must survive for 6 days. Each day we had to buy 1 water and by the end of the game we had to have fly spray and a fishing rod to be able to escape on the boat. In the end, the person who spent the least money would be the winner, however there was a catch there was only 6 cans of bug spay so only 6 people would survive. Through this game we learnt a lot about demand and supply

Market day

Week 6 Friday we had our Christmas market. Through out the market we had a couple of sales and we lowered our price so that more people would buy from us. We had a total profit of $14.50 however the receptionist bought 6 bath bombs from us giving us a total of $26.50 profit. There was definetely a very low demand for our bath bombs however we still managed to make a profit. Through organisation and resilience we were able to make a couple of sales and have a profit.
