Project Utopia was a major project that all of Year 7 completed in Term 2 and 3. In Term 2 and 3 we intergraded many different subjects that helped us prepare and get more knowledge before doing the Utopia Project. In science we had to built a sustanible house which helped with how we could make our community as sustanible as possible. We read The Giver Novel in Term 2 and learnt more about liveability which helped us understand more about how livable our Utopia society is . In Term 3 we learnt more about the Global Goals and how they are a big part of the world and how important they are. The Utopia Project was a task for everyone in Year 7, we had to make and design a perfect community and present it in front of our parents, teachers and special guests.

While building our Utopia we had to choose which UN Global Goals we would like to focus on in our Community. The UN Global Goals tell people what we are aiming for as a society and may encourage some to help reach these goals in the world today. The UN Global Goals are a set of universal goals that targets adopted by 193 UN member states that outline a vision for the future for people and the planet. The Global Goals that my group and I have selected was, 1 No Poverty, 3 Good Heath and Wellbeing and 6 Clean Water and Sanitation. The reason we had chosen these Global Goals is because we thought that these were some of the most occurring problems in the world today all over the world. In our Utopia we had found solutions. For Global Goals 6, Clean water and sanitation we had designed a water system that would collect rain water in water tanks and it would get sent to the filters making it available and drinkable to the community.

Goal 6

Global Goal 3, Good Health and Wellbeing, In the community we have a park to improve physical health and which also has a public swimming pool near by, in the area of the park and pool is a public green house garden open to all in the community it is also better good for sustainability and cleans the air in Utropolis, these will help physical and mental health and on the plus it helps meet new people and make new friends. In the  world today many adult struggle with socializing and as some children this is because they are have not gone out as a kid and gone and socialized and or because the  have not gotten help with there mantle and physical health.

Goal 3

In our Utopia we designed a community that is sustainable. Some the things that really helped us and taught us a lot about sustainability was during our  Science lessons. We were tasked with building a sustanible house, it taught us how to be sustainable and it gave us great ideas for what to do and how to make our Utopia more sustainable. In our community we have chosen not to have any  cars, to get around you can use the electrical trains, ride a bike or walk, to transfer food to the shops there are electric trucks and the electricity will come from solar panels and wind turbines that will power the electric trucks and trains. The lights in the houses will be also wind and solar powered, the water in the houses will be collected in rain water tanks and flited to be drinkable, showable and washable. Our community green house will clean the air from any pollution in the air. All of this strategies make a city sustainable however more needs to be done to make sure ‘real’ cities are implementing these strategies.

My group and I had all decided to do our Utopia Project on Co-Spaces  because it was easier that one person taking it home and not being able to all work on it at the same time and  we could all work on it together. We also found that it was quicker and easier because we didn’t have to find any resources to build a physical model. I think could have been more organized with the planning and maybe should have had a little play around with Co-Spaces before we started the building on Co-Spaces just so that we knew how to work it a little better.  Because of this our Co-Spaces did not work when we completed our class presentation so we just did our speech but it was all fixed by time of the Showcase. We got some help by others and it all went well. Though my group and I did have some disagreements but we all got over it and worked it out together, it also helped us collaborate more and work together better.

In the process of the Project Utopia, we had some special guest come and give us some advice and see what we were creating. Some of the special guests that had come a visited my group was Shaz Rind (Managing Director of ARRA energy) he have us some great advice for our Utopia. The  UWA Masters students that had came over a gave us good advice and was very interested in our water system.

Here is one of the special guest that came

My biggest fear is public speaking, though when doing this assignment I think that I went pretty well, my feed back from my teacher was better than I expected and my group did really well when speaking in front of the class and the parents and students. I think that I may have done a little better in front of the parents, especial guests and teachers, but I think that I did fairly well in both.

Project Utopia was a challenge but it was also very rewarding project it taught us a lot of different things. Though I think that we defiantly could not have done it with out all of the teacher that organized everything, and also thank all of the special guests that had given up there own time to come in and see what we are doing and give us advise. Project Utopia was fun and challenging and taught us never to give up and how to work as a team.
