In a recent HASS lesson, my class was taken outside to a hill so we could carry 15L of water. This was to show us how difficult it was for people who have to carry water everyday to and from home. We only had to walk 100m up or down a hill, carrying 15 kilos of water, in moderately hot 25 degree weather. This lesson helped us have sympathy and understanding for those who have to go through this everyday, except those people have to walk in much tougher, hilly and rocky terrain, no shoes, in much hotter heat, for at least an hour, twice a day and carrying the water on their head. These people, as young as 5 even, have to go through this everyday and this excersize really helped us understand just how lucky we are, so lucky that we can just turn on a tap and have access to instant, fresh, water.
