$20 dollar boss is a program where you are given $20 per person from your school and then use the money to make a business, and when you have profited enough off your business you then pay back the $20 plus $1 interest. For my $20 dollar boss project, I am working with my friend Abbey. For my business, we have decided to upcycle old, unwanted clothing and to turn it into something new or improve on the clothes to make the cute and “trendy”. We made the decision about this business because we both want to upcycle clothes and promote sustainability. We also both know how to sew and we both love to look for new ways we can make something that was old into something new again. We chose our business name, Beachside Thrift, because by being sustainable we help the oceans and also our clothes and items will be trendy and beachy as well. Me and Abbey are sharing the load, both the project managers but I manage more the financial /marketing/monetary side of the business and Abbey manages the more making side of the business. The research we have done is asking people for prices that they would pay and we also asked if people would buy our product. The response for the latter was pretty 50/50. It was mainly because a lot of the people were boys or concerned about the quality. The people who did say yes were saying yes because they said that trendy clothes are super expensive. We also have an idea to incorporate into our business, functional tote bags. We want to use the scraps from the clothes to make them into cute tote bags with zips and pockets. People really liked the tote bag idea because it would be useful and they are needed in society right now as more and more business’ go plastic free.
