Project Utopia Timeline

The Giver

The first part of our project utopia project was the giver. This was a book about a community that was supposedly utopia but the community was not perfect as they had secrets that nobody knew. we read this and talk about it as a part of English class. This book was useful during the redesign of the port as we needed to make the place as close to a utopia as we possibly could.

Liveability

The next part of Project Utopia was the liveability factor. Throughout term 2 in HASS we learnt about liveability we had to make the new area as liveable as possible (eg lots of shops, fun and recreation, sports and learning facilities) we wanted to make Fremantle port as liveable as possible to have people use the facilities there.

The Excursion

Personally I did not go on the excursion due to COVID-19. Other than that the entire cohort went to Fremantle port to see the place that we would be transforming in the next 2 terms. The entire port is 19 kmĀ² and we would have to strategically place everything to make it as liveable as possible.

Vision Boards

In our class we would get a group of 3-4 my group consisted of Ethan Chang, Sedley Hoar and myself. We would have about 4 topics of ideas on our boards. We had to research sustainable ideas we could incorporate into our redesign. after researching ideas we decided that we would make Fremantle completely car free and we would replace roads with bike paths and footpaths. On these paths we would have footfall and bike fall harvesting this means that when people walk or cycle on the paths they would generate electricity. We also had the idea to have lots of greenspace all around the area. We would then make Vision Boards incorporating our ideas and display them on grandparents day to all the grandparents.

Report

After making the vision boards we were told to write about the information about our ideas with our group. We would have a topic we chose for our vision board and write 2-3 paragraphs explaining our ideas, we would then write a introduction and conclusion together and put all of our paragraphs with the introduction and the conclusion with all the references to the websites we used on one word document.

Co Spaces

Our next project was to make a scale replica of something that was part of our final product. Personally I did the light rail. This was quite hard as most of the class had never used co spaces before it was hard to learn the controls and building. we would then incorporate all the elements of the thing we were building. because I made the co space for light rail I decided to do that topic for the speech we did at the end of term 3.

Model

The model was a scale replica of everything we were putting in the port we had different some people in the class doing the model while the rest were doing co spaces. this was hard for the model makers as they had to scale it down so that everything would fit in.

Parent Presentations

The last part of our project was presenting our ideas to the parents of the students. Each group had 4 people in it, mine consisted of Ethan Chang, Leo Wong, Haraen Veeramachaneni and Myself. we each wrote a speech about our ideas with one of the 8 separated pieces of the model the groups were chosen on the placement of the buildings. then we would take our piece of the model (ours was piece 7) and display it to the parents with the co spaces. we would present for the first 2 periods and after that the parents went home and that was the end of our Project Utopia Project.
