Best Flat Lay photo – Jorja South

Flay lay photography is a great way of capturing a story or products in a more eye catch and interesting way. while testing different flay lay styles I played with different balances in the photo with multiple objects as well as lighting, positionings and different products. Out of the flat lays I did the sewing flat lay was my favourite flat lay I did.

I like this photo because I created a contrast between the light coloured background and complimenting colours like white, light brown and red as the props, but then contrasting with darkened shadows, as normally you would see a bright and vibrant lighting with lighter colours and theme but I wanted to capture the views eye with more of a contrast. This photo also keeps a consistent space in-between objects focusing on balancing in the photo, as well as the balance between the larger objects vs the smaller objects, The smaller objects were grouped together so keep a balance in the scale of the photo. I also added a sections of glitter in the corner of the photo to add more texture in the photo.

Improvements:

During this process there was many mistakes and took a while to get perfect, as the set up and balance of the photo was difficult to get quiet right and took a lot practise but by the end of the tests I learnt how to set it up much easer and created the photo above.

Balance: To improve on this photo I would like to add some other objects like maybe pins and a larger thread. This would improve this photo by adding some more props in this photo so its not as plain and basic.

Colour: To improve on the colour I would to try and add another red item or maybe more red thread to really tire in the colour theme, and possibly try a different colour background.

creativity: To improve the creativity of my flat lay photo I would add some more texture like glitter to really capture the attention of the audience, For example I would place a spilt glitter bottle and have the lighting reflect of that to draw your eye to the photo.
