Neuroplasticity is the way your brain evolves and changes over time, Neuro meaning brain, and plasticity meaning easily shaped or molded. This basically means that your brain is re-shaping and adapting to activities that you do like playing an instrument. A good example of neuroplasticity is learning to walk. When a baby starts to walk they do not have a neural pathway optimized for walking so they have to constantly be thinking about moving their feet and have to concentrate intently on walking. Over time however walking becomes easy as with practice, the brain has developed an optimized neural pathway just for walking.

Many people think that is impossible to improve how smart or intelligent you are, but with neuroplasticity, this is made possible. The improvement of intelligence is made possible with brain training. Brain training is doing activities such as a Sudoku consistently each day. It is scientifically proven that doing brain training each day consistently can decrease a person’s reaction time and make them significantly more successful and accurate in everyday tasks.

Grit is another thing that can be improved with neural plasticity. Grit or resilience is basically not giving up, keeping on going even when life puts some huge challenges in your way. A prime example of this is 38-year-old Australian Nick Vujicic. Nick was born with tetra-amelia syndrome, an extremely rare condition that is generally characterized by the absence of arms and legs. Despite his condition nick is a perfectly capable person he can do anything that a normal person can do and inspires others to fight through rough patches in their life. Nick has incredible grit and persists and never gives up despite his condition. He shows that through grit and resilience you can build strong healthy neural pathways to tackle any problem that life throws at you.

Happiness is another thing that can be greatly improved with neural plasticity. The way this works is through focusing on a particular thing and getting very good at that particular thing. Having the good healthy neural pathways focusing on a particular thing will then aid you when you get down as there will be something that you are good at and enjoy thinking about and bring you back up.
