Growth in Communication through English
To achieve success in any task, good communication is an important skill to have. In English this term we were presented with the opportunity to express our views on a chosen issue in society and communicate them to the class through a dramatic performance. This task was focused on representation and how effectively we could use dramatic techniques in our performance to convey this. This learning experience was one which allowed me to grow in different capabilities, such as communication, which ultimately results in the development of my understanding of the world.
As the task tested us on our ability to choose a relevant issue and represent it in a way which was engaging and meaningful, our group had to work together to construct and perform a play which met this criteria. We used our communication skills to both communicate with each other about each of our roles when preparing the performance and communicate our representation of our issue to our class. Before beginning this task my skills in this capability limited as I was used to and preferred working by myself. When given this task, I had to go outside of my comfort zone to communicate within my group to make sure everyone was on the same page with the idea and contributing to the task as equally as possible. For example, we were limited by the number of periods we had to work on the script in class, so I suggested we divide up the work for each group member to do at home. Our chosen issue was one of importance to us as a group, so we had to find ways to communicate our representation of it effectively to our audience. As none of us had any experience with drama I made sure that we all had done our research and had a good understanding of dramatic techniques to be able to do this. This task successfully helped me to grow in the learning capability of communication.
