Pollution
Pollution has significantly damaged the natural water cycle. The resulting water shortage is a concern for all of us. It is true that we cannot open the natural sources of drinking water to meet the rapidly growing demand.
Solutions
- Hold a river or creek clean-up.
- Host a screening of a documentary about pollution.
- Visit schools to talk to kids about how they can help stop pollution.
- Contact your local representative to speak up about your views on keeping water chemical-free.
- Join a group that plants trees to help clean the air.
Irrigation
Humans change this hydrological cycle through their need for water – irrigation is very popular – and it changes the water supply, affecting evaporation and runoff. Pumping surface water for irrigation depletes surface water but strengthens the groundwater.
Solutions
- In counties where it rains a lot, just don’t use it.
- In dryer countries they should grow native plants to that area, that were built for its climate.
Grey water
Grey water treatment systems collect, store, treat (chemically and/or biologically) and may disinfect wastewater in accordance with standards set by the Ministry of Health. Depending on the degree of purification, this allows treated wastewater to be used for above-ground irrigation, flushing toilets, and supplying cold water to washing machines.
