Year 9 2021 – Lock Camp

Throughout my time on Year 9 OLP I enhanced the All Saints Collages capabilities of, teamwork self-awareness and organisation. This camp was very different to any other school camp I have been on, this camp really challenged my organisation skills. Prior to the camp me and my group member, Simba, had to plan out all the food we were going to bring. This task definitely required a lot of organisation skills. Simba and I planned out all the food and equipment we needed for cooking. As well as packing clothes and personal belongings, I successful had everything I needed all throughout my time at Honeymoon pool. I think that went well organising the stuff for both me and my group members. The organisation is definitely a strength of mine and I used this capability on camp well.

One of the capabilities that I tried to use throughout the Year 9 camp was teamwork. I think that teamwork is by far the most important capability on the All Saints capability wheel. A lot of the tasks that we were required to do, were tasks involving teamwork. I used teamwork very well in camp as it is one of my strongest capabilities. Whilst on camp, me and my group member had to pack the food. Simba and I had to divide out the food and did this very well working in a team. We set up the tent together and participated in the rafting together as a group. I also worked good whilst doing the amazing race. This was a group task that we had to do and my group finished 3rd. Next time whilst doing teamwork I will try and be more inclusive to others who may be feeling left out or not comfortable. Teamwork is a lifelong skill that can help me throughout my time at school and throughout my whole life.

Self-awareness is the ability to focus on yourself and maintain your mental health and wellbeing. At camp, I think that I was very self-aware. I maintain my physical health by doing activities like rock climbing and rafting and I maintain my mental health by hanging around my friends and people who support me. Using this capability helps me balance my life and keep my self inline and be able to do fun things Next time I think that I will try and take in, most of my opportunities and step out of my comfort zone more than I did. Being self-aware in life helps me maintain my physical and mental health.

Honeymoon Pool is an area full of wildlife. And being students camping there is not good for the environment because people leave rubbish on the floor, leave food scraps and disrupt the surrounding area. All Saints College cares about the future of the school and its environment. Honeymoon Pool is a campsite that All Saints Outdoor ed programs use almost every year and we must treat it with respect and look after it by picking up rubbish and doing our best to care for the future people coming through the campsite.
