20 dollar boss is a program for Year 8 student where we are split into groups and we had to come up with our own business idea using 20dollars. At the start, we were struggling to come up with a decent idea that would make us money. Eventually, through a lot of brainstorming and discussion, we thought of the idea to make laser cut key chains. During the process, some struggles we faced were trying to make a decoration that was not copyrighted. We were limited to only a certain amount of products that we thought we could sell to our target audience. We thought of the idea to do letters so people with the name starting with that letter could buy it. When we had to buy the chains Charlie and I went to bunnings and got 5 packets of keychains for $10
When it came to prototyping the keyring, some obstacles we faced were trying to make the product not flimsy and breakable for example when we thought we were ready we made some prototypes but we were told they were not strong enough and they would break. Eventually, we managed to make them not flimsy and and not as easy to break. Another problem we faced was trying to get the right font and the right hole size for the chain to fit in. The font was hard to find because the letter needed to be a certain size so that the hole would be able to fit the chain. I learnt that resilience is important at this stage.
The process we went through making the key chains. First we got the idea of doing key chains. After doing making the idea to do key chains we had a bunch of designs we were going to do but when we showed the teacher she said we could not do items that have copyright. Then we had to make a idea that was not copyrighted and would sell. Then we made made letters instead of our original designs.
During 20 dollar boss I was very organised by and used that capability to support my group by brining the float and brought the change to the market to provide to the group. Charlie and I went after school went to the library to put the chains on the keyrings. Some things we did to help the process of making our products created a scrum. A scrum is a design thinking process that we used to know what we are doing and what we have done.
I think I have come a long way since the Christmas market. On the Christmas market I was with Henry and Dylan we thought it would be a good idea to produce phone holders made out of popsicle sticks. We did not do that well in the market and we did not prepare that well. This market I think we did better than the Christmas market and was way more organised. I think we also had a better stall than last year with all the posters and the log that we hanged the key chains on.
