Wellbeing Project

In our health project for this year we decided to focus on spreading awareness, and increase people’s wellbeing around the topic of body positivity. In this generation people still shame others on what their body looks like and we wanted to try our best to create something that can show people what others have to go through daily and the effects they can have.

The biggest things I learnt from completing this task was probably the real truth on the amount of people that have to go through this everyday. From our research in preparation for our solution we got facts from UK and Australian organizations and it helped to show me not only the large number of people that go through issues with body image but also the wide range of ages and types. Originally I thought it was mainly teenagers that dealt with this problem and how in only few cases it could lead to something was worse, but in reality it happens in around half of the cases recorded.

The biggest piece of advice I would pass onto young people in regards to wellbeing is to take time out of your day to focus on your wellbeing and educate yourself on issues that arise due to poor wellbeing. I feel like this is the best piece of advice to give since many young people don’t focus on themselves or give themselves time to reflect or do something purely just to benefit them. This then helps to prevent negative feelings that can arise when you chose the not look after yourself. Speaking from experience with having to help other people around me with these issues, it can happen more easily than one might think.

I pledge to always take a set amount of time out of my day to do something that benefits my wellbeing and wont skip it because I don’t feel like it. What I do wont always be the same but I will focus on swapping between an active, educational, spiritual or environmental activity since they all work on something different and there is a wide range of activities I can do for each. I will stick to this commitment by setting alarms for times during the day and then turning off my phone / tech so I will able to focus solely on whatever activity I feel will best benefit me that day.
