My Learning Experience

In my learning at school I’m taking subjects that all students are to take, other than my electives where I’m able to pick ones that I enjoy. This includes website and app design, music specialist, and taking a couple units in Curtin university. While most subjects such as science, humanities and social sciences, english, and math specialist (which goes along the pathway of taking math methods and specialist for ATAR) are quite general I have found certain subjects more enjoyable than others. Studying a diverse range of subjects has ensured I manage my time well, switch up how I learn, and enjoy learning more.

A lot of my learning is also from what I do outside of school. This includes cocurriculars such as music ensembles, the Future Problem Solving program, and Sustainability Club (where I’m in the early stage of starting a program focusing on making daily habits to reduce waste amongst the College and within the club). Service has also offers the growth of skills. For example, serving breakfast with the Salvation Army, interacting with Nulsen residents, painting a canvas each year for fundraising, serving in my church as a kids church leader, and organising a fundraiser for Beyond Blue with my friend. Personal projects fuel me to work independently and gain new skills. This stems from being involved in teaching and making with the Precious Plastic machines, designing logos, posters, photo-manipulating, and arranging music. I have also experienced how it is to work with a client from my lazercutting and designing skills which allowed me to be offered a job as a promotional product producer.

The courses I’m studying this year are:

  • Chemistry ATAR
  • English ATAR
  • Human Biology ATAR
  • Math Methods ATAR
  • Physics ATAR
  • Politics and Law ATAR

I’m looking to be involved in the medical and healthcare industry and the subjects I have chosen for next year reflect this. The science subjects such as Chemistry, interests me as they challenge me to understand the concepts and apply it to solve problems. I have also chosen Politics and Law for variety, personal interest for its analytical and applicable skills.

Creativity and innovation is a core part of identity. While many of the ATAR subjects I have chosen are quite studious, I’m planning to maintain this side through cocurriculars, the innovation and enterprise council, and personal projects.

Other skills and knowledge that I hope the learn and improve on are:

  • Collaboration across performing and visual art mediums such as design, music/sound, and movement
  • Further hone in on problem solving skills
  • Different types of communication
  • Musicianship
